Hm, zwzsg created an updated OTA archive which I have added a modinfo.tdf to.. Perhaps I should upload it to fileuniverse.

Well, the old dirty way of pasting that file into your Spring root folder still works.

I'm planning to soon do a pack adding OTA, and evOTA with UTASP bp, in clean way, declared like mods are supposed to, selecteable in the lobby dropdown list.

So use the dirty way for a few days until I do it the good way.

me and min3mat used the old dirty way, and found for some reason that it gave us XTA......

I just retried and it gives me OTA buildtree.

Make sure to put OTA_settings_for_spring_patch.ufo directly in .../Spring/ not in any sub-folder.

Or maybe the old way works only single player, when clicking Spring.exe, and not when you pass by the BattleRoom? Then playing via IP should do it.

I├óÔé¼Ôäóm really, really looking forward to this mod to give us back the original Total Annihilation to the extent SPRING allows. I don├óÔé¼Ôäót get this soon I├óÔé¼Ôäóll probably rip my hair out trying to endure another XTA game with that absolutely H O R R I B L E balance. :wink:

XTA is far more balanced than OTA, especially in Spring.

Well, the OTA mod won't have flare, obviously. The /units/*.fbi are taken straight from TA (save ...), so they won't have lines such as:
CanDropFlare=1;
FlareReload=5;
FlareEfficieny=0.3;
FlareDelay=0.3;
FlareDropVector=0 0 -1;

Just because Min3Mat is very impatient, I huried up and released the OTA as a pretty new mod selecteable in the drop downmenu:
Classic_TA.sd7. Put into your /mods/ folder. Then in the battleroom you can choose it as a mod, instead of XTA. I have absolutely no idea of how to play it offline, so online only. Edit: get this new, better version instead

I ask that you give me screenshot of the arm seaplane plant buildmenu, and of the core seaplane plant buidmenu. Because these were troublesome and I want to be sure they're right now.

URL is prone to change, file too, so don't bookmark and spread it yet.

Edit: Apparently there's a few more glitches in hover cons and seaplane cons buildmenu. I guess sidedata.tdf strikes again. Gonna fix that. But bah, no one build them in OTA anyway, so it's not that critical.

Edit2: Removed the adv kbot factory from seaplane cons menu, and the adv veh factory from how cons menu, and reuploaded, same place same name (but 5.4 instead of 5.3).

XTA is far more balanced than OTA, especially in Spring.
There is truth in that, OTA is balanced for OTA games, and thus has no adjustments for the spring engine. Thus due tot he fact that certain thgins dont work the same way in spring, the OTA mod would have to change to play the same way as in OTA and that would cause problems for people who would worry that it would change the balance and ruin the game.

in xta:
CORE>>>ARM late game
CORE~ARM early game
ARM>CORE mid game
(CORE has a SERIOUS advantage, gollies, krogs, rapiers whereas arm can get mobile fusion easier and quicker than CORE can get light fusion)
in OTA:
CORE>ARM late game
CORE~ARM mid game
ARM>CORE early game
MUCH more balanced.
Besides Zswsg this is 'classic' TA NOT OTA => its a clean sheet, stick everything in you can!!! (especially flares! :D)

I really don't think CORE is better in XTA than ARM, because ARM has berthas and FARKs and ...other stuff...I don't know off the top of my head.

:roll:

In OTA TA:
ARM>CORE late game. ARM has berthas and FARKs.
CORE>ARM mid game. CORE has slashers.
ARM>CORE early game. Though CORE has Shadows, ARM has Freedom Fighters, Flashes, and a faster Commander.

In OTA Spring:
ARM>CORE late game. Berthas and FARKs.
ARM~CORE mid game. Slasher swarms are now useless due to slashers in the back hitting slashers in the front instead of the enemy.
ARM>CORE early game. Flashes.

I really don't think anybody thinks that OTA is balanced.

Edit: Some people do, but most serious players don't.

I really don't think you should put words into other people's mouths, Lindir.

I prefer OTA, and prefer its balance. I don't think either side has better or worse balance, I just think they have different balance. And I personally enjoy the OTA balance better than the XTA balance.
