Just go through the settings, for the second issue, change desktop margings. Ctrl-right click on SystemBarEx.

For the first issue, the button that says "bb" is a customizable menu, make that your start menu. Edit menu.rc to change it.

Also, you can change the BB text to say start, which is what i did a la:

Another thing. Don't change the path of the menu, because that initial menu gives you all your options and ways to get places fast, if you take that away, you will somewhat cripple your ease of use imo.

I don't like look on the face of that boy, smells like an FBI pedo trap.

Besides, running the blackbox "instead" of the explorer apparently doesn't free any resources. Or do I actually have to set it as default shell and do a restart? I mean winkey+d switches back to the explorer desktop for example.

Set as default shell (you can always change it later by just choosing uninstall).

For me performance increased by about 30%

Could you be more specific of what benefits from this exactly? Like menu or window drawing etc.

Also I'm using several apps which start minimized as tray icon which means I probably can't access them through the shell.

You can access anything... In fact, the bb start menu covers more than the explorer one, so you can get to different branches of the tree much more quickly.

Also, you can pin any menu to your desktop, which saves time like crazy.

If you have your bb set up like I do, you have explorer functionality + bb functionality.

It's kinda hard to explain, but let me say that once you get used to it, you will love it.

One thing you need to understand upfront. Any part of the interface can be edited by simply hitting crtl+rightclick

Also, using plugins and extensions, you can edit your gui to be exactly like you want it to be, there are very few limitations.

Check first post for updated download...

Seems hideously complicated. Do I have to be a coder just to understand this damn thing? Or better yet, is there any kind if quickstart guide or the like around where you could attempt to understand the program?

It's really not complicated.

The only reason it seems that way is because it's different. No you need 0 coding experience. All you need is to be at least remotely intelligent and knowhow to rtfm :P

also, if you download the file I posted, a lot of the setup process is alroeady done, only thing you need is to set the font and icon size on the bar and menus (my font is kinda large as I'm at 2048x1536).

Or you could just run the fluxbox window manager under linux and get the same thing but better and with extra added performance.
