Yeah, my reaction exactly. Too much Jar Jar Frenzy, Ironhide was an upper-class twit instead of a Southern redneck veteran, the Decepticons were complete non-characters, and the Autobots were peripheral. Instead, we get Sex In The Signal-Processing-Lab chick with her Louis Vitton purse, utterly-pointless Section 7 creepy guy who is the total villain until magically he becomes a hero because a little kid told him he was wrong, etc. etc.
I'm a transfan, obviously. But I wasn't one of those whiny bitches who was complaining "OMG, Megatron is a spaceship!" or "OMG, Bumblebee isn't a bug!!!?". I didn't mind the new robots at all.
What I minded was the pure, liquid stupid of the film. It had a handful of good scenes (Starscream kicking ass, Prime killing Bonecrusher, and Army Vs. Scorponok) but it was filled with so much pointless crap it ruined it.

Doesn't apply. That doesn't even feature the same thing. You would be better off comparing blue destiny and gundam unicorn to the main uc storyline if you are looking for a proper one-off within the UC timeline. If OP means "original poster" as I think it does, I want to set this straight. I've never watched more than 5 minutes of any Transformers show or movie or whatnot, and I've owned precisely 2 transformers toys, both chinese knockoffs when I was 5. And they ruled. I watched the movie knowing no "backstory" if the franchise really even has one. And I, even I, as a completely Transformers-ignorant viewer, though things were too dumbed down and sanitized for the sake of a mass market audience.
The movie robots were really cool - when unfolded - but Optimus Prime seemed to be in need of his respirator and cane during most of the fights. I thought he was supposed to be badass, as the leader and everything...
