@Rattle:

Lookin' good. Can't wait to see how they come out skinned :-)

@Pressureline:

Not a bad start at all. Needs more detail and interest on the skin itself, however, and I'd personally be sorely tempted to re-evaluate how you're executing the supports. While what you have is realistic, very few people will see them from most views, and they'll almost never see the middle one, except in screenshot-level views.

It might be more visually pleasing to put the supports on the outside, so that from a top-down view, players see more variety of shading, and even if you just stick with the plain ol' Quanoset Hut theme, some weathering (see SpikedHelmet's article, it's very useful) and dirt / grunge (pick out a tiling rust texture, use Pattern Stamp + a filter, I use Darken / Multiply / Soft Light a lot, btw this can be done with GIMP just fine, too, and it's drop-kick easy) will make it into an object that feels like it has some context.

Ehh what unit? I've been playing DR for a long time and I don't recognize it unless you mean the imperium's plasma or tachyon tank.

Ornithopter? Having actually done aerodynamic analysis of ornithopter flight, in a real wind tunnel - you need two sets of wings for it to actually be able to fly.

Like a dragonfly.

Looks fine though, so you can ignore me.

EDIT: Also, I have something to add!

-snipped, new one below-

Still need to add the gun turret and antenna.

EDIT2:

Done. 236 faces, although I think I have a few I forgot to break into quads, so more like 240-250 range.

EDIT3: Made wider. Much better now.

Yeah it's more like a dragonfly. However...

The only issue I have is landing and taking off. I didn't include any landing gear (lazyness) nor VTOL jets for taking off. There are two jetstream engines for support, though. Realism always is a sacrifice when it comes to cool looking and functional.

PL: I meant otherside's tank, I recognize yours. I've been spamming them for ages (and shockwaves of course).

Holy freaking hell, that's really cool.

Heh, maybe I shouldn't have gotten an A on that project. Oh well, that was the better part of a decade ago anyway, the supporting technology has definitely evolved since then.

Fathership

Post by rcdraco »

Due to the rise of insubordination. I was forced to model this.

This is the Fathership for Guardians in The Plot of War.

with that 'http://www.ornithopter.org/store/video/cybird.wmv ' anyone properly looking at it would see that it isn't a real bird by how fast the wings flap and i bet it takes so much to power it.

The geometry fails, besides models need to be in default stance but that's not the major issue.

Smooth function: don't use it unless you know what it's good for. Proof above.

Otherside, non-planar faces are BAD, wings has a tessellate tool, use it.
