Some screenshots, you may notice the sea level is out,, these maps are just to see what this app can produce.
Intuative interface, and easy to use. Even has a map viewer for previewing.

Terragen can make much nicer maps than that when used properly.

I agree, Terragen can produce amazing maps in the right hands.
I fiddled about a bit with this program and am getting better results.

How about releasing that map, but first make a screenshot of it with reflective water cus it doesnt look very good with that water.

I think thats my graphics card because it should be reflective, the settings are in the .smd :(

L3DT has potential though, I made a few small changes to the default settings to come up with this map, but the program can make volcanos and as you saw plateaus, with complete control over the scale of these features and good deep water if desired,, it also supports miltiple water tables, you just have to delete any "lakes" it renders in the water map before proceeding,, but the best thing is its dead easy to use. :-)

The map is not ready to upload yet, just have to do a metal map.
Will post a link soon as its done.

I have played around with L3DT too, and it farly easy to create nice looking big maps in a relatively short amount of time.

Maybe if someone talks nicely to the auther, he will add some features just for us.

Edit

Or Buggi can add support for L3DT files in Sharpmap? Would stop us having to reconstruct a mozaic of Jpegs into a giant bitmap just so it can get compressed again.

And an L3DT hint... to stop the texture map showing water and shadows, as spring does this already, deselect "use light map" in texture settings.
The preview will not look so nice but dont worry it will be ok in spring.

Any hints as to what variables you changed to make the finished product look better?

Why don`t you just export the map as a .bmb as one image file, when L3DT has finished the map, go file - export - active map, and select .bmp in the "save as"dialog.

Yes,, go easy on the cliffs and terraces, you get more terracing than you get cliffs, and the result looks very ugly.

I tried that and they kept saving at 2048x2048 rather than the 8192x8192 that I was using for the texture map. I'll try agian if that should work!

You can make the map with this app as big as you can. Then export
the texture map to bmp format. You can also, do it for the height map
too. You can then open it with gimp2 or PS Pro an resize the bmp
to the proper sizes so you can make a spring map.
