The .S3O Warehouse

Post by Argh »

This thread is intended to provide a free, Open License source for Spring game developers who need content for their projects.

If you're a modeler, and want to participate, you may currently send models to these people to review:

Argh

Requirements For Submissions

The following technical requirements must be met by artists wishing to submit their work. Please review them before sending any entries:

1) Your model must be uvmapped. The quality of the mapping is not taken into consideration. However, please do remember that someone is going to be texturing it, and ask for critique in another thread, should you need feedback about "what is a good uvmap".

2) Please do not submit models which have a polycount of over 5000 TRIANGLES, anything over this will be rejected. Please use common sense about polycount- if you're not sure what is considered a "good" polycount for Spring, then please ask for feedback, in a separate thread!

3) You MUST use some sort of 'Open' license. CC-SA, GPL and Public Domain are all acceptable. Submissions must come with the written notice that, "I hereby release this Model under " whatever license you've chosen, or Public Domain (no license at all). We cannot accept private-source models, requirements that restrict commercial use, etc.

4) You must be willing to repair technical flaws in your models, twisted vertices, corrupted geometry, etc. We will attempt to load your model into UpSpring (the tool used by game designers to rig models and prepare them for Spring). If the object doesn't load, or has serious problems, it cannot be accepted.

5) The model must be submitted in 'game ready' form. Don't send a 'mech type unit as a single object, please cut hidden facets, etc.

.S3O format (the native format of Spring), with full object hierarchies and object origins set, supplied in a pack with relevant textures etc., is strongly preferred.

If you cannot submit in .S3O format, for whatever reason, please use either the OBJ or 3DS file formats. These are both imported by UpSpring. If submitting a large, multi-piece model, you must use either 3DS or .S3O as the file format, OBJ will not be accepted, due to lack of parent-child hierarchy in the exported mesh.

Example Submission

This is an example submission, showing you what, ideally, your submission would look like. We are aware that not every submission may meet these standards (and may exceed them, in terms of artistic quality!) but this is a good example of what a complete model would look like:

Model: "Archer"
Artist: Argh

License: This model has hereby been released into the Public Domain.

TBH, it'd be better if this thread were stickied, and you simply added links to any models people release, since it's more likely nubbers will make their own thread saying something like "ok who wants this moadEL???" than bother with this much "work".

That is why I don't like it being controlled by one person. Look at our current situation with uf or our prior situation with FU.

Rattle, I didn't get any submission from you, unless it's in my Gmail, not a PM.

As for the rest of it... meh, RL intervened. I got a new job, working for the state government, so I've been a little busy getting up to speed, reading a billion things, etc., and haven't even had time to update anything, or even to get any real work done on PURE for the past week and a half :(

Hope to get more done this weekend, but I have family obligations to meet. Such is life. Should start calming down a bit over the next week, now that I officially know what I'm working on, have been introduced around, done lots of meetings, etc.
