Dave has set up a development environment and started the Linux porting effort. (Many thanks for that Dave!)
But unfortunately he lacks the time to lead the porting effort any more.
'We' (the other people involved with the porting effort) need somebody with time, coding skill's, communication skill's, enthusiasm, some vision and experience to pick up the task and lead the project to completion.
So, anybody?
<EDIT>That's anybody with the skill's mentioned above and running the Linux platform </EDIT>

It should run on both systems when we are done with it. Hopefully it will be in packages so that people can install it easily with their preferred package manager.
I'm, not a programmer myself, but do you need help with attracting a new lead developer? Maybe I can get this as a news item on the website http://www.linux-gamers.net/, could that help? If yes, please say so.
In reply to all this, let me just say that YOU'LL NEVER TAKE THE LINUX PORT AWAY FROM ME! IT'S MIIINE, BWAHAHAHAHHAH!!
Just kidding.
Just a quick note to outline the general role of the "lead developer" here. Contrary to what the title may indicate, there is little real porting work involved there. Your tasks (the ones I have failed to find the time for in the past few months... Give another chance, people? :) ) are:
- To maintain the wiki in a usable state, with information properly ordered and up to date. The coders have enough on their hands porting the dang thing without wrestling with the upkeep of the information hub.
- To watch updates to the port tree and oversee what is happening there. Basically, shadowing the coders so that you can immediately bring any questions or issues to the mailing list, rather than people finding out two months later.
- Set project guidelines and "standards" among the developers. Coding style, project policies, etc.
- Be there on the mailing list when people ask things. The most important thing here is to have a presence people can refer to.
And finally, a plea for myself :) I know I've been distant recently, due to a neverending stream of events (exams, then the google summer of code, then...). I regret this happening, and would still like to lead the porting project. If the devs will still have me, I pledge to making myself more available, at least for the above tasks. Sadly, I can't promise much on the coding front as I already have my hands full, but I can at least try to be a "manager" figure.
