Final Frontier New Concept: Command Station

Greetings from the Final Frontier team! As per last week├óÔé¼Ôäós video showing in the Art & Modeling forum, we├óÔé¼Ôäóre still alive and kicking [ass]. Right now, have a completely new build concept that needs assistance from scriptors and modelers.


Basically, the Command Cruiser [hereinafter referred to as the CC] will get to build a new unit called the Command Station [hereinafter referred to as the CS]. The CS may only be built once, is limited to being built a certain distance away from the spawn point, is orbital, has some defenses, and a fairly large and powerful nanolathe that can be used to assist or build units in its range. The CS is like a technology and defense center, protecting the home base and allowing for new units to be built. The initial building of the CS allows the CC to build the L1 Spacecraft plant, and the CS itself will initially also be able to build the mobile L1 Orbital Defense unit. The L1 CS will have a nanolathe range that covers approximately 2/3 the area of a Cosmos sized platform.

Then, after some economy is established, the CS can be upgraded to L2. Each upgrade of the CS is fast [around 30 seconds], but expensive as compared to the resource technology available at each level. At L2, the CS itself will have the nano range covering the area of at least one Cosmos size station, and will now be able to build the L2 Orbital Defense unit anywhere in its nanolathe range. This also enables the CC and all L1 builders to build the L1 Starship yard [which formerly was only buildable by the L1 con spacecraft], and allows all L1 Spacecraft plants to morph into the L2 Spacecraft plant [currently known as the Covert Ops]. The L1 Starship yard can build the L2 con spacecraft, and the L2 spacecraft plant can do so as well. At this point, players will be able to fight with either L1 Starships or L2 Fighters. This is similar to how FF worked before, except that Fighters and Starships are now built in separate factories entirely.
Now preferably, the CS would also contain some intermediate upgrades on the build menu. That includes unlocking some of the heavy defenses [such as the Mauler ion cannon and Impact space station], and some ships in the factory. This is similar to the ability to research in Starcraft or Age of Mythology, only that you are unlocking units instead of abilities. I├óÔé¼Ôäóm guessing that this kind of an lua script is doable, but we need somebody to help us complete this. Players don├óÔé¼Ôäót need to necessarily unlock all the units at a level in order to continue upgrading the CS, but it allows for a cheaper way to get better tech in the meantime.

Using the L2 con spacecraft, players must build up their economy before continuing on and upgrading their CS to L3, which is highly expensive; as the upgrade time is constant and still short, players will have to stop all other building activities during upgrade, or face total nano stall. At L3, the CS now has highly upgraded defenses, a very large nanolathe range which has a radius from about a Cosmos sized station to one of the smaller mini platforms, upgraded workertime, and can build the L3 Heavy Orbital Defense units. The L3 CS unlocks the ability of L1 Starship yards to morph into L2 Starships yards; however, not all L2 Starships are buildable yet unless their ├óÔé¼┼ôblueprints├óÔé¼┬Ø are researched at the CS [again, need some example code to demonstrate the feasibility of this]. The L2 Starship yard also builds the L3 con starship, which builds the biggest resource and defense structures [if possible, the huge ass space stations will also be ├óÔé¼┼ôlocked├óÔé¼┬Ø until researched at the CS].

Finally, there is an ultimate choice of upgrades for the CS to L4. For L4, the CS can be upgraded to either a super resource structure, a massive defensive space platform, a map-revealing sensor station, or a special structure for Arm/Core; for Arm, it transforms into the ods ├óÔé¼┼ôteleporter├óÔé¼┬Ø, which has map range nano and can build a super heavy Orbital Defense unit anywhere, even in an enemy├óÔé¼Ôäós base if it goes unnoticed, while for Core it transforms into a Devastator building shipyard, complete with massive nanolathe power.

So, to recap, we think this concept is pretty cool, but we need some help in implementing it. Aegis, our lua scriptor, has been working on other stuff and has had less time for FF than we expected, while our modeler Torham is also weighted down by his job in real life [which has night shifts├óÔé¼┬ª].

So we need a modeler and a scripter to implement the following things for us:

Lua script that builds upon the current morph script and allows upgrades, research, and morphing into multiple types of units.

Modeler to create the models for the CS, including one for each 1-L3, and the L4 models.

Questions, comments, suggestions, volunteers, please.

I don't think that anyone has even heard of Epic Annihilation being able to morph.

Anyway, upgrades has already been implemented before. See KDR_11's Cosmos and Chaos mod. I suppose that there is an easier way through LUA, now.

With the evolution of the Command Station, will it gain a bigger footprint, or remain the same?
