Do I need the original Total Annihilation to play Spring??

Legally, you need to own a copy in order to download or play the TA-based game packages (mods) for spring. Functionally, you do not.

If you want to play TA based mods such as OTA, XTA, AA, BA or CA then yes you need a legal copy of Total Annihilation to play these mods.

However spring installation doesn't require a physical copy or install of Total Annihilation. The requirement of TA is a legal requirement, and only affects mods that take TA content.

So installing spring and playing nanoblobz, or gundam, or EE for example, is all fine and legal, and doesn't require ownership of TA.

I'm against OTA mods. We need more free mods. Too many people make up stories like this and claim they own it, part of the reason why BloX will be 100% free, so I don't get caught up in legal crap when Atari catches us.

(To the "Play Spring" part, you don't need TA to play one of the dozen or so other games out there for the engine and you DEFINITELY Don't need to have TA installed on your computer to play any part of spring.)
