I want to get back to modding.

What has changed, what is this LUA I should use?

I have tons of .wings models lying around, I can use all those, and I have an amazing e-machine now, to do anything. ^_^

I can't play anything on steam anymore, so I can spend all my time on this now.

I don't know what I want to do, I want help, I want to learn this lua thing. I've made tons of mods before. I can use my old models and textures, I really have to learn scripting.

Lua can do almost anything. Try implementing e.g. Arena Wars in Spring as a proof of concept, that'd generate a big load of useful scripts.

I don't want suggestions, I know WHAT I want to make, but I want to know HOW to do it.

Basically a refined version of BloX, with a nice GUI menu for customization. I have tons of models, tons of old mods, is there something in the wiki to help for this? I can do ANYTHING as far as modding goes, besides my scripts, where the same issue occured. I am asking for help, not for suggestions, alright?

Join #lua in the client and read the wiki in the LUA forum and any LUA tutorial that appeals to you online - Google has tons. LUAEdit seems to be the preferred freeware. 0o

trepan is the key point of contact for implementing new lua functionality (because he does it all), and he hangs out in #lua. Can join #quakenet too if you care too - I'm sure the contact info's floating around here somewhere.

For good examples of lua in action, try CA (Complete Annihilation). Not much of a mod, but a good lua script showcase. Didn't pay much attention (as they weren't really playable mods), but think FunTA and Simbaes have lua to offer as well. When you're bored, peruse UF's lua scripts for download.

To give you some examples of contemporary lua scripts, Morphing (as per SupCom upgrading), new attack types (Bomb Area for bombers and Bomb Planting for Core Commandos), Music AI loading widgets for soundtracks, idle builder or factory widgets that show icons for units not in use or give them default orders, and niceties such as start point removers and Dead Commander Ends notifications are all available (all of those listed are featured in Tired Annihilation thanks to the CA team, jK and Ray).

I'm thinking of learning all the scripting, and taking a swing at fixing Tactical Smash. I just want to finally make a playable mod, that can last longer then 2 days. T_T

I can make the models, do all the other junk, but scripting is just a pain for me, I have to learn EVERYTHING there is to know about it, if I'm to make a playable mod, without stealing others content, like the last release.

I drew up some ideas today, here is the Kwazar - Spark Cannon Tank.

Click to make them larger. And as far as larger goes, it doesn't fit on my screen. ^_^ Little too big for my 1600 x 1200.

As far as the gun goes, I want it to do something like this:

It will fire out and spray the bullet with sparks, then smoke and the bullet has fire trails.

I'm betting this is hard to do, but, this is supposed to be an important unit. ^_^
