Can you map with paint?

Yes. Why you would want to, I can't fathom, as you will lack all the tools that make your life easier, and it will be _very_ difficult to make a map that doesn't look like poop, but if you have a lot of time to spent, and are very careful, it is possible to make a map with nothing but Mapconv and Paint.

Use Paint.net!
It's free if you have windows, and handles EVERYTHING, it's great for ANYTHING.

Well, me i recomend to write down how you want your Map. Then take about 5000 $ and rent about 400 Chinese or Indians Locals to paint parts of the Map in Paint. Then you only need to acomplish the "melting" together of the Puzzles Parts. Voila. This is how i did most of my
PS: Lathan and FA are also using this Way. I mean just look at FAs Maps, everybody would agree you can´t get that Level with just skill, hard work and a good programm. No that is the work of an Army equipped with MS Pain(t)

It is actually possible to map with paint, just not too well. Contrary to what others have said, paint does NOT have a size resitriction in pixels (I have gotten 20kx20k in the past on paint). The only restriction would be your RAM (simple enlarging the work area on paint is extremely RAM hungry, If im wrong and paint is capped, the size I've reached with it would be easily big enough for any spring map).
However, if you wish to map, and dont wanna drop money into photoshop; download GIMP. Its the free equivilant of PS.

He already said he found GIMP 'confusing'.Envy wrote:However, if you wish to map, and dont wanna drop money into photoshop; download GIMP. Its the free equivilant of PS.
If you find GIMP 'confusing' you will find mapping even more confusing. And frustrating. And difficult.
Its not very easy to make a map, its even harder to make a good map, and its very time consuming even if you know what you're doing.
What aspect of GIMP do you have trouble with? What are you trying to do with it?
I recommend that you do not give up on GIMP too quickly. Ask questions, search for tutorials, etc... GIMP is an extremely useful tool for all sorts of image editing. Even though it may take longer at first, you'll be much better off learning GIMP (or Photoshop) if you have a serious interest in mapping.

It has a hardcoded limit of 100k x 100k, and uses 725MB of ram at this point. edit: heh, it also gets really amusing bugs...such as putting things drawn on the screen into the image, and refusing to close due to a 'lack of available resources'.Envy wrote:It is actually possible to map with paint, just not too well.
