Resolution Selection Enhancement / Widescreen vs 4:3

Post by MetalSkin »

G'day all,

It's hard to know off the top of your head what resolutions are 4:3 or are widescreen (not sure what aspect ratio wide screen is by default).

I've seen some UI's that show a representation of the aspect ratio as a rectangle that reflect both the aspect ratio and how high the resolution is. It would be nice to have this in the settings when your selecting your screen resolution.

Also in searching the forums I'm getting mixed signals as to whether spring supports a wide screen aspect ratio. I suspect it does, but I've seen posts that say it always forces to a 4:3 ratio and others that say they run fine in a wide screen res.

If only 4:3 is supported then would it be possible or feasible to support a range of wide screen resolutions?

I ask this out of pure selfishness cause I have a 30" wide screen monitor and its a pain in the ass when the aspect ratio is screwed up.

I run in 1680x1050 (16:10), works fine in all aspects. You can type whatever you feel like into the boxes in settings.exe.

Spring works perfectly at any resolution large enough for the fonts to be readable. The only caveat is that build icons are specified in fractions of the screen size, so unless you adjust a couple numbers in the current ctrlpanel.txt they won't be perfectly square.

Thanks for that Lurker - the rectangular buttons really bug me.
