Do you need an official Spring trailer?

Post by Pendrokar »

If yes I'm up for it and would gladly accept some help from others?
Well I wanted to start it after new Spring release(to get some bugs fixed), but I will record clips from a svn version!

But I need to know what I can use(copyrights) how it should be, what music to use, does it need sound(Hard on this one cause I use Spring recording and it doesn't record sound. Well If Im filming at 6 FPS and the video would run at 25 FPS then the sounds would be funky!), which Spring Logo to use and text on it?
Just tell me what you did, didn't like and make suggestions looking from my Spring Trailer 2 - http://www.gametrailers.com/player/user ... 09324.html
Let's just get it right!

Yes, I need some more for the site.
I made a post before on what is needed from a video, I will dig it up and update it a bit.
Updated post wrote:I need several different video's for the new spring site.
I need real 'show-off' video's of Spring.

The are things that I care about:
- The video's should be between 1 and 5 min.
- You can't put copyrighted music in the video. (no TA music for example)
- The sound level needs to be relatively low and the same across the video's as the site users won't be capable to change the volume inside the flash thingy once I embed them in the site.
- I need the source video in a high quality open video format (wmv is not good).
- You need to release it under an OSI or CC (ShareAlike) approved license.
- You need to upload it to Google Video so they can host it and I can integrate it in the HTML.
- Look into that smooth-cam command thing Trepan coded for the Spring engine.
- If you like to put credits in the video then do this at the end and don't fade to black but show it while the video is still playing its content. (low profile)
- Don't use the same mods and maps for all video's. (If you make more video's)
- Try to show mods like NanoBlobs and Kernel Panic as they are high quality open source mods that don't use IP from others.
- The video needs to be in the 4:3 screen size format. (not wide-screen!)

If you don't understand something ask me so I can explain it.
Also feel free to make a few mock up video's if you like to get some feedback from me.

+1
I don't like those fabricated trailers that don't show the actual gameplay. Take some bueatiful and epic game and turn it into a trailer that shows what spring really is like. Seeing 5v5 flash spam at the beggining, t2 battles, big berthas, huge air raids and maybe some t3 at the end would make ppl thnik something like: "Wtf, how come I don't play this right now?"
SupCom had such trailers at GT but the games were played by noobs (developers :-) ) and they sucked. However one good thing about them was the commentary. I once played en epic neurope game and JJ45 was destroyed early. He remained as a spec and kept writing some awsome comments like:
"Air raids on Moscow continue. It's not a good place to live these days ..."
or my favourite
"By a coincidence two great plans that should have ended the war collide"

I think a trailer made from an epic game + comments would kick ass

So no game or specific movie music?
- I need the source video in a high quality open video format (wmv is not good).
Ohh  but ok! PS. I use DivX Codec to record(*.Avi), but save with Windows Movie Maker in Wmv, but I can convert it with a special program!
- You need to release it under an OSI or CC (ShareAlike) approved license.
So free for me to choose which?

Where can you post high definition trailers, Auswaschbar?

Also, I think we can probably use portions of TA music, or possibly entire tracks, under fair use... it's not hard to justify. For one thing, it'd be compressed, and it's available uncompressed elsewhere. We could use short segments from several tracks, which makes it considerably less "offending" legally. Fan productions constantly use licensed music and generally don't get in trouble. It's an old game and can no longer be bought easily. Etc... Really, I think we could justify it, especially if we gave credit. Author Jeremy Seoule, from Total Annihilation (1997, Atari).

Pendrokar. As i wprte before it doesnt matter if you show all mods.. out only missions is to get peopel to download the lobby and play a few games
nobody that downloaded the lobby will know what mods he wants or needs.thats our job in the lobby to provide him with the needed info to get aquainted with all the mods.A trailer must amaze people and make em wanna play..

If the trailer isn't repackaging copyright music in any format that can be distributed for regular music listening (ie: a common sound format), but is embedded into the video, what is the problem?

Particularly for the TA music, which is borderline 'would anyone care' territory (hell, you could probably ask and receive permission from Jeremy Soule), I don't see it as a big problem. Big mods which have more media spotlight then Spring, such as First Strike for 2142, have regularly used John William's tracks in their promo videos. First Strike is just begging for a C&D letter from lucasarts (though they tend to be pretty cool with that sort of stuff), given that it directly competes with their battlefront series in terms of coolness, graphics and features.

Did you watch the video? It said it.

We shouldnt bill spring as 'TA 2.0'. Thats wrong on so many levels.

Its a shame that there were in fact 2 seconds or so of ES and KP in that video and not any more. I admit KP doesnt look as 'awesomeomgcool' as *A but ES is a damn pretty mod (other than default explosion fx).
