Hey, maybe we can help you out, if you can provide the following details:

- can you run the game in single player without experiencing bugs
- can you host a game (sometimes you can't join other people but they can join you)
- what is the error message you get when you try to join a game
- are you behind a router (and if you are, did you try to enter your Internet IP address in the preferences of the Spring lobby)
- do you run any program such as a firewall, anti-virus, etc concurrently with Spring?

Justin when it didn't work what did you do? You just gave up, I guess. Why didn't you look for information and try to solve the problem?

Very good question....

If the devs changed a few things around in spring (just the defaults), people would be able to get into it easier (and thats the truth). Currently, I believe a lot of people try it but just give up because of stuff like this. Its truly sad.
Truly a good question. Maybe because it is a GUI issue and no one is working on the GUI... Still someone should go there and make a quick and simple fix to that... Also, if i remember correctly, i've even added a feature or bug request at the SourceForge site about that. (i don't seem to find the spring site at sourceforge anymore...)

I also think that many people try the game and leave to never return because of that...

Right, it should always move along the horizontal plane like the other modes and never forward/back in the camera orientation...

tut, tut, try looking at camerahandler.cpp/.h I recently tried to implement a populous camera handler (same as overhead but angled and left/right keys rotate) I dunno if it works cus I cant compile the engine yet so I sent it to SJ and buggi.

Ovgerrall it seems pretty easy if you use the other handlers as examples.
