LEGO SPRING!

Post by Sheekel »

Ok...since people were getting angry at the "off topic" discussion of lego spring in other areas, here is the official "Lego Spring Ideas concepts suggestions agreements dissagreements i dont care if you hate lego...it would be awesome to see it in spring" thread.

I would be happy to contrubute models/unit scripts if the project actually gets off the ground. I think it would be really neat to see lego mechs firing explosive lego bricks....and the explosions are all Lego-ey. When i was younger i remember placing huge random bits of legos together and then tossing the menace down the stairs to watch it explode into all its individual pieces! MMM.....destructive!!!!

Here is a really crappy render of a basic unit idea. I made it in about 10 minutes so dont give me crap.....

i put ZERO effort into this one...its 3 oclock in the morning.....

Thoughts? Is it worth making this mod?

Hey yeah - we could do TA (tm) Star Wars (tm) LEGO (tm) and see how much copyright we could infringe in a single mod. LOL seriously though, I love lego stuff. Excellent idea!

K'nex(tm) vs. Lego(tm) would be awesome. I think it should be done. i dont have much time on my hands (as you can see with my POS model), but any help would be great. LEGO(tm) OWNS ALL.

*I remember building massive lego bases and having wars with my frends in 6th grade. Kamikaze nuclear submarines!!!!!!!            :!: *

its not lego :? , its LEGO(tm) vs K'Nex(tm)!!!

Maybe you werent a huge of them. I would make this mod for me and the others who want it. i think changing some models and weapons wont be too difficult. I already have 3 models done :-)

for those of you who like the idea, do you think the old Ta models should be used, but made to look more lego-ey.....or should unique units be made?

There is an RTS in development that is similar to your 'lego spring' idea. Check machrts.com. It is like TA but with interchangable pieces for each unit. Effectively like legos. The project used to be open sourc,e but then it went commercial (atleast they are more motivated now I suppose!)

Would be even better with an alteration to the particle to send lego bricks flying. A nice side-effect is the smaller number of particles should be helpful to those with older vidcards.

What? Machinations suddendly went from open-source to commercial? Is that even possible? Makes me fear for Spring!

A program can be open source yet commercial at the same time. Look at quake; its engine is open source, but that doesn't necessarily mean the game is free. They still own the right to the actual content of the game, but the source to the engine that runs it is open. Open source does not always equal free.

Right. So open source means the product, commercial or free, is shipped with the code, not that it's free? Such a common mistake I'm ashamed I fell into it.

Plus the distinction between the engine and the art that you made.

But Machinations used to be not only open-source, but freely downloabable too. And now it's "we'll finish at the end of the year, and you'll have to pay to get the game and the source".
