Can someone fix the rendering engine on new nvidia cards
More and more people are upgrading their computers and finding that spring runs really badly, and before i get loads of posts about how its all microsofts faults etc, i have NO problems with other OpenGL games and have noticed a marked inprovement, but not in spring.
Does anyone know WHAT is causing this huge drop in framerate with the same settings but on newer nvidia cards?
and if so, who wants to fix it?

8600 was frequently benchmarked as underwhelming. The big draw of the 8600 is that it's the first affordable card to bring full DX10 support to the table, not performance. 7900 variants are comparable in price and beat the pants off of it in benchmarks.NOiZE wrote:I just "upgraded" to a 8600 GTS from a Ati X800GTO2 (thats like a 6600)
And i got like the same preformance, and yes i turned of threaded optimisation. srsly 500 corgator on the screen and there i go 10 - 20 fps, and they are not even moving!!!
Meh((((((((((((((((((((((
Well comming from a X800 should give me some preformance boost..................Mr.Frumious wrote:8600 was frequently benchmarked as underwhelming. I get 100+ FPS, with shadows on, by just turning the map detail down, turning water to reflective, and turning grass off. Oh, and I use the customized nVidia settings, that I discussed earlier, that nobody bothered to sticky or wiki.
Map detail is a giant sucking sponge of FPS in Spring right now, and I dunno why, but I have a feeling it has to do with the shadowmap code, because the hit is waaaay less when shadows are turned off. I think that the 50K tris that IIRC JC was saying were typical of some situations (very noisy heightmaps, few like pixels) is actually being turned into many more than that, but ... I haven't had a chance to really, thoroughly test that, so I may be completely wrong.

on amd 3000 and 9800pro i get 35 fps while standing and 20 when moving. 9800 pro is slower than 6600GT ...NOiZE wrote:Argh how many FPS do you have when you spawn like 500 gators?
edit: minimum setting, only some decals, lod and terrain lod ,1280*1024

i run at 1280x1024, shadowmap at full at 2048, all other sliders either full or 3/4 full, all the little boxes on hte right ticked (apart from simplified elevation map), V-synch and dynamic water also on (unless im playing a mostly water map where lots of people are likely to go sea etc, then i'll change it to refractive, altohugh its still playable late game in large team games, i prefer it a bit smoother..) and 2x AA
running a 2 year old 7800GTX and its always a playable frame rate, altohugh putting AA any higher killed FPS late game in 4v4's etc..

I get 70 FPS, with almost everything minus water and LOD at max

Edit: 90 FPS with water set ONLY to reflective

Lemme see if I can find my perfect borderline :D
Edit: 105, now to apply argh's settings to my nVidia (if they aren't there since a few months ago, last time I set em there)
Edit: 115-120

Edit: 30-40 FPS with 500 gators onscreen
