TASClient - looking for maintainer

Post by Betalord »

Since I have less and less time to maintain TASClient, I am looking for somebody who would be willing to continue developing it (adding new features, implementing necessary modifications to keep it compatible with latest version of Spring, etc.).
The program is somewhere 40k lines of code in size, all written in delphi 7 (pro). I am willing to help guide you through the code or whatever you'll require. You will need some experiences with Delphi from before and general knowledge of object pascal.

Please PM me :)

Edited to make this a normal topic since it is old now --LordMatt.

considering there's a fork maintained by satirik, I'd say he's the obvious choice. Ideally springmark should go away or be renamed to jjmark, but I can live with that, other features outweigh it.

I believe the two options are Satirik and Klink?

+1 Satirik's new builds are top notch. I also think springmark should die.

Or it could be replaced by AF lobby which seems to have features TASClient doesn't and also works under Linux from what I heard. It might need some polishing, I read complaints about it being pretty buggy.

I think satiric is probably the only rational choice... That being said, I'm not personally incredibly pleased with the stability of sat's lobby as opposed to the old spring lobby.

What problems have you had? I haven't had any problems at all ever and I've been using it for a while with it on for 10+ hours.

I encountered a memory violation while leaving a game. Also when using it longterm at some point due to some inexplicable trigger the &local window stopped displaying, which might not bother a normal user but 95% of moderator commands and querys print to &local. The old spring lobby I would quite literally leave active for weak long periods. Satiriks lobby I've had to reset every 5 hours or so, depending how much I use it.

Well since SpringLobby i beleive is multi-platform and so is AF's can we npt use one of them, it would help both sides greatly to be honest....

Note that this is NOT about taking over TASServer maintainance, nor is it about which lobby will actually be included with Spring.

Which lobby is included with spring is a decision tobi would have to choose to make should the general consensus of the community be that a superior lobby to tasclient exists. Probably co-inciding with a large shift towards that lobby voluntarily within the playerbase.

This is about tasclient needing a new maintainer. I agree satirik is the most capable person for the job.

@swiftspear: Most of the bugs in satiriks lobby are either todo with new features or they exist in tasclient already and are inherited. I find satiriks lobby just as buggy as the previous unmodified version but nonetheless I cna leave it logged in for hours without consequence sometimes. Im sure with the right information satirik could fix whatever issues pop up.

However Im curious as to what this means for the fate of TASServer?

The fate of TASServer is determined by the gods! Long life and prosperity, we all hope. Besides that, a new account system + migration to mysql. No worries.
