The Orange Box

Post by Relative »

Has anyone else pre-ordered, or is planning on getting this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Orange_Box

Its such good value for money. Its five high profile games all for $45 (├é┬ú20 or ├óÔÇÜ┬¼35). Half Life 2 (comes with counter strike source), Half Life 2 Episode 1 & 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2.

Half Life 2 Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress are all new games, and each alone could be sold for around that price.

Edit: Also, if you get this even though you already have Half Life 2 and Episode 1 you can give away these games as gifts to friends.

Since I have none of those games, and want most of them, I was very tempted, but no Mac support is disappointing. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up an old copy sometime later when I have some time to do some tune-ups on my windows box.

Knowing Valve an "old" copy will still cost 50$. Unless you mean used since you can't sell Steam crap used without paying Valve a 10$ fee and no store is going to let you trade that in anyway.

WTH are you talking about? Are you talking about how games are linked to a personal account, thus cannot be resold?

Never read the EULA? You can deregister your CDkey for 10$ or so and that's the only way you can resell it.

Basically why Valve is the only really big gaming company I've never bought anything from.

Well I can understand your issue with Valve's system. I have a similar issue music DRM (as do most people). You don't actually own the product you are buying, its more of a long term lease.

That's why, unless its Valve's own product, I never purchase games off steam.

Even if it's retarded to force people to re-buy HL2 + EP1, it's still very good value I'd say. A shame you can't buy JUST Ep2 though. I guess I'd like to try Portal and Team Fortress... meh. Good deal compared to paying $20 for a CD to listen to the only good track.

Woohoo! My plan payed off!
I never bought ep1, cause I figured that it would be free along with ep2.
That said, I've known about the orange box for a time now. It's one of the games(collections w/e) Ill be sure to buy this fall/winter
