A pincushion remake would only work with features for the spires. Spring just can't handle vertical surfaces in a way that looks good.

That being said, one would think you'd only need about four or five different spire models for a bit of variation, and it would look fine.

I personally loved pincushion, simply because of the way it effected gameplay. It effectively stunts long ranged units (particularly missile units) and air units, and so it completely changes the way games are played, and makes for a fresh new game where new units and strategies are explored.

One of the fantastic things about TA was that the variety of maps related to the variety of units in such a way as to make different maps like entirely different games.

To the mapmakers: teh love. Keep doing your thing!

I like symmetrical or semi symmetrical maps for no reason I can figure out.

coz they are balanced for gameplay?
flooded desert (my fave map) gives the player at teh bottom way too many resources if you play in order start pos. the only fair way to do a 1v1 is a player per island so you have roughly the same amount of land :( good for 2v2s though :)

A request: with TAFF (a space based mod) being ported to Spring, it would be nice to have some big, island-hopping maps with low topography. TAFF maps in TA had space platforms for base building, and metal-rich asteroids to fight over for resources. Now, TAFF has some work to go yet, but it'd be nice to have some maps suited to big naval, air, or space battles!

This is just a suggestion for any mapper looking for a challenge.
