More Races

Post by LathanStanley »

How challenging would it be to script options of more than 2 races... core and arm.... say if we add races.. + units... maybe add a "spring race"... and name it something.... and we can build our own units to use with it..

I'd be interested in helping model those too...

just a thought...

what do you guys think??

I would like to build my own prototypes from somekind of 'legos' and use them to defeat. The idea would be that you would never know what kind of enemy you encounter and which kind of units do you encounter.

There would be five kind of toolboxes which you can use. Then you could also stole tech from another player.
Every toolbox would have its own skins, building techniques and mechanics, while they would be similar.

The idea would be to make every unit with next method:
- Select unit type and frame, some toolboxes wouldn't have all the frames. Frame would define unit's method of moving, characteristic, weapon load and such. Examples: missile frame, four legged, tank, car, aircraft, hovercraft... etc.
- Select unit size. There would be couple unit sizes from smallest to biggest.
- Select unit gear.
- Select gear capacity.
- Select the unit AI.

The system would be so simple that you could build a new unit while you are playing. You could store and invoke your unit plans anytime. Also those plans could be stolen from enemy and analyzed. I don't know if this should be its own game already, but let me know what would you think about it.

Heh, i'd love to work on a spring based race, but i'm kind of a control freak and i'd want things to be included that not everyone might agree with.

my idea: more conventional styled units with more conventional layouts.

Tanks:
Medium Tank (Stumpy, Raider): Main Battle Tanks equipted with high performance Gauss guns, turret mounted Gauss-Machinegun.
They will be superior in firepower compared to Arm and Core tanks, but will be more expensive and slightly less armor than a stumpy.
Light Tank (Flash, Instigator): Plasma shell tank, instead of having a weaker fast firing weapon, this unit will have a slow firing high area damage, low damage plasma warhead that can strike multiple units in 1 hit.
SAM launcher: could be a C&C generals style Quad Cannon or a direct counter to the SAM launchers.

K-BOTS
Infantry (PeeWee, AK): Small Gauss rifle carrying powered exo-skelleton.
Rocket (Rocko, Storm): RPG launcher, less damage but higher splash damage.
Artillery (Hammer, Thud): Rocket Barrage, fires quickly, but is inaccurate and does less damage per round than a plasma shell.
SAM: Either a Gauss cannon complex or a Stinger style SAM missile.

Aircraft
Scout (Peeper, Fink): High Performance UAV
Fighter (Freedom Fighter, Avenger): Gun Fighter, nuff said ;)
Bomber (Thunder, Shadow): Cluster bomber, less damage but larger delivery and spread radius.
Transport (Atlas, Valkyrie): Crane helicopter, slower but better armor.

Ships:
Scout (Skeeter, Scout): Machinegun and SAM launcher
Sub (Lurker, Snake): fires faster but does less damage, has medium armor
Destroyer (Crusader, Enforcer): Similar, may have starburst missiles instead of a cannon?
Transport (Hulk, Envoy): Landing ship style

These are only level 1, the Commander might be a vehicle or even an aircraft or a different aproach on a K-Bot commander?

this is how I would like to see it, the unit lay out will be much more like SupCom and have their looks lend from Modern weapon systems.

What do you think? should I continue the list?

I'm always imagining that kind of gameplay for my own mech warrior/rts style game or (which I would have to build then). A game where you are not only improving your skill in a game but also adapting your own technology. Whenever you play against someone you don't know, you can expect completely different units.

I think before anyone should start on a special set of "Spring" units, the whole unit system should be redesigned, so you won't have the limitations of TA cob and 3do formats.
What I would really like to see in the spring code is an interface for the unit system instead of the fixed COB+3DO models, so anyone can add their own unit types. Preferably this would be DLL based too, like the AIs

i really liked the earth 2150 style of making units and being able to save them. however the essential part of this was you had to research new chassis...i think it'd take a bit of work for spring to do that but would be a AWESOME mod. (as long as it ISN'T earth 2150 units, i want new ones!) also builders being able to deform the terrain like mining vehics could in earth 2150 would rock.
Who thinks earth 2160 is going to be like? i think im going to wait for a demo to come out first before i buy

I long have a tougt of a REAL lego mod...

All the units would first be modeld bye me(or anyone with lego) and then made into a 3d model. Then we would make it into a unit, and volia!
When they explode, lego bits fly all over the place, and the corpse if a pile of lego bits.

I also thougt that buildings would have legos on them, and they would all have cool animations, like a solar collector and a sun bading lego ''man'' (wtf are they called in english?). Or a metal extraktor with a lego hanging on the spinning thing, who spins round and round and round and round... Plus, all units should have visilbole lego men on them, and buildings would be ither ''built'' bye falling lego bits that peices that land ontop of each other. (or normaly... dunno?)

Am i crazy? Proably, but i love lego^^

You dont have to code, you can model, or...
All the units would first be modeld bye me(or anyone with lego)
Meaning that you can make the models in lego, take some screen shots and send em in.

IF the project ever gets started-.-*

What you want to play is Lego Rock Raider, not Spring.

Very disappointing thread, I hoped to see some way of adding new races without editing /gamdata/sidedata.tdf, not the silly usual "I want a new race" posts.

The diffrence is that Rock raider suck, and spring dosent.

The lego is COOL! RETRO! And the greatest toy ever. And it dosent have to be all ''Lego Veichles''...

I made a cool robot, and it looks a little like a mix of a peewee and a Zipper...
