Is FF Dead or Alive... That's not the question, anyone care?

Discuss game development here, from a distinct game project to an accessible third-party mutator, down to the interaction and design of individual units if you like.

FF is not dead

Post by Kovin »

I would like to announce FF is not dead. For some time, several Lazarus class ships have been secretly working on abandoned Arm military base and they finally found several wrecks of their command cruisers. Ressurection was complete success, and new commanders - Kovin and Aegis - are working night and day to bring Final Frontier to new and better versions then ever. With the occasional tips and hints from The-One-Who-Does-Not-Want-To-Be-Known and other Spring moders who are answering questions (Kovin is real modder noob), they are making nice progress.

You may have notice their project with unbelievable stupid codename "Mad FF" (Kovin was really more mad then he usually is when he named it).
It is based on OptimusPrime's FF version 1.21 - so most commanders out there will probably chat about $h!##^ balance, cr&%%^ units, slow gameplay and much more.

They want you to notice one thing: So far, it is the only *working* FF mod for Spring, with working weapons, scripts, models and buildtree. Commanders out there who are moders too know how long it takes to create new units, import ones from OTA versions, correct scripts, convert files and more.

When they awakened once again, in old OptimusPrime's base, they used what they had. Balance issues are much easier to fix then import everything!

Kovin is planning to bring Beyond the Final Frontier balance, at least as a mutator, for their project. If it will prove to be better, it can become standard version. Work on that mutator is in the beginning, so do not expect it to be released tomorrow, as there are many things to concider, import and change.

Currently, our two heroes are working on changes for OptimusPrime's version, as its much easier and can be released faster, keeping Final Frontier community alive and kicking. They are testing new ideas, balance, tweaking unit costs, faster weapon systems and more, all of this to make Final Frontier better. If you have some ideas you want to share, you are free to do so if you keep them free of profanity.

Their best librarians and public relations department are working on new - and not so stupid - name for the project too. So far, there are several suggested names: Extreme Frontier, Behind the Final Frontier, Total Frontier, Faster Frontier, Just Another Frontier, New Frontier and Frontier Next Generation. Someone smart in PR department suggested to start a contest - the one who come with best name will be forever remembered and maybe even unit will be named after such individual. So think about it,
give it a priority #3 or even #2, post your ideas here or PM Kovin in Spring - and win! Also, if you have other skills and you want to put them to use on their project, contact them.

Final Frontier Forever!

Glad to hear that it's not dead that's one of the more interesting things that could be really awesome in Spring, given some TLC so good luck :-)

It appears that this is no longer needed however...

Smoth I was gonna say that since I'm nearing my "Completion" of what I wanted to do with Funta, I'd be happy to take a look at it. I could prolly knock it out n short time.

My suggestion is: Final Frontier Reloaded.
Mod tested with Kovin, seems very promising.

Kovin sent a message he likes Frontier Next Generation (he is fan of the ancient hero known as Jean-Luc Pickard). Final Frontier Reloaded sounds good too.

Both of which must suck indefinitely due to their sequel nature.

Question: what was broken with FF 1.8/1.9?
