This is my stepdads computer since I installed XP Pro, I can move to another operating system as XP cd's are the only widnwos versions I have and it took me a lot of time and effort to get my stepdad to upgrade to XP in the first place.

I knwo I have a friend or two suffering from similair problems and I ahvent a clue howto fix this

It starts off fine, and then as I continue to use it it gets worse and worse till it gets to the point where all I see are lines, and there's no way fo telling what lies udnerneath.

i had similiar stuff when i was messing around with my x800 vivo, making it XT PE.

i believe the overclocking did that, i suggest u try to change the graphics card, just to test if it's that.

mwha! I wish I could, I have the iffy older one in there and the geforce fx in this one. I'm afraid that oepnign ym stepdads comptuer will leave him ranting at me for emssing around with his computer and ultimatly put the blame for every problem that occurs in the future on me.

But if it is a hardware problem then It'll pursuade him to buy a new one. Still dont explain why Windwos 98 doesnt have this problem but XP does..

If I go into my docs and select a loada thigns and drag the mouse back and forth sometimes the icons go abck to normal and everythign starts showing up properly, then the lines return again...

edit:: come to think of it, this happened on my older computer that went boom, and that was while using my geforce fx which works fine in this computer.

 It's a virus called "Windows XP" which you will have to remove.

XP is fine, its just it has to be on a perfectly stable system or it corrupts itself.

Yes, XP is fine if you disregard some stuff that is more offensive to some than others.
I was just having fun.
