Problems with map :(

Post by Tree »

Finally decided to have a go at mapmaking, been on and off for a while now and i finally got round to finishing it.

However everything compiled fine, as far as i know everything is in the right folder, I then 7zip it and i always get the message 'Map.smd Not Found!' when i try and play it. The file is there and i really dont know what i did wrong!

Anybody know what the problem is?

You are sure the map files in the archive are in the folder /maps/ ?

So it should be like this:

map.sd7/maps/yourmapfiles

and not

map.sd7/yourmapfiles

yeah, they are right as far as i know, currently:

Mapname/maps/files

It seems quite happy with the other files, just the .SMD but then again i suppose i could have messed them actual files up!

Any other ideas before i try again with a new map??

I could always upload it to UF if you dont mind having a gander at them?

You could try and look @ other maps, and see what you did wrong.

Well i had a look at Supreme Battlefields .smd file (also used it to double check my files were in the right folder!)

Looked at all the settings etc made a few changes to mine however i still get the same error :(

Still getting the 'Incorrect/Missing Content' 'Cannot find Map.smd'

Really dont know what im doing wrong here! Gets frustrating doesn't it :-)

Are you sure you saved the .smd file as an SMD? You may have to force it in the Save As form.

Sorted it!!

Maps now fixed and works, turns out it didnt like the naming, it preferred tree rather than Tree for some reason! Knew it would be something small!

Then all it needed was a few alterations to the .smd and Spring can now load it!

Now if i havent scared anyone off and your still looking at this topic, can you advise the best way to sort the water level out? its a bit too low at the moment :)

Thanks for the ideas above too, they got me thinking the right way :-) (if you know what i mean!)

If you want the water to be higher, while compiling lower the min height and lower the max height by the same amount.

Try downloading this: http://spring.unknown-files.net/file/17 ... _Tools_V3/

it has a few useful mapping tools in it, including some things to help you with the water height.

Use Water Height to work out where the waterline would fall on your height map, choose some good values, then use SMFED to change the water height values of your map.

Thanks for everyones help, just one last question (hopefully)

Map is now pretty much how i want it, dont think ive done too badly for a first attempt either!

But, when scrolling to the bottom of the map, lines appear in the water:

(I hope that link works)

Anybody know how to solve these random lines?
I thought it might be the .smd file, i played around with that a bit but i still have them :-(

Can you find somewhere else to host them that doesnt make the image 20x smaller then require 9 ro 10 mouse clicks tog et to a dcent sized version.

Can you zoom in on the stripes? I cant tell if its the map or the water renderer.

For anybody wondering, i found out what the problem was.

Turns out the heightmap was too big and the water level a bit wrong!

After playing around with it a bit more its allllll sorted!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Thanks everyone!
