I dunno if it is plasma, but mavericks can do decent damage to con planes/gunships in XTA, same with fidos, thought they are much less likely to hit

Everything can except for lightning because it has a hardcoded inaccuracy (but even then some shots can hit). Try 100 ltfighter vs 100 lttank in SimBase, you'll see the fighters get shot down by tankshells.

I have, when pressed, used Hammers to bring down Con Aircraft.

I once saw a bertha kill about 15 brawlers in a single shot after they were given a move order to the same location and bunched real close.

I think that pretty much any weapon can damage planes: Getting then to hit its the problem :)

I think nukes might hit planes flying by, so keep your planes away from the nuke laucher! :) It remembers me of a game I have where I sometimes blast myself by lauching a nuke from a submarine while I forget I am under a enemy ship... :) (Warship Gunner 2)

Yes. Plasma, in large enough numbers, can hit planes. 20 guardians vs a squadron of planes IS nasty.

it's essentially the same as shooting down an aircraft with a machinegun. The problem is, because they target ground units, and the code isn't designed for otherwise work, they fire AT the target, instead of ahead of it
If you could code it so that your unit aimed XYZ in front of the target, and had a little scatter on its shots (to compensate for the faster aircraft and the slower aircraft) then you'd be able to hit planes with a plasma cannon.

Then I understand why vulcans don't fire when a friendly plane is in the way, although the chances of hitting it is minimal!

But no mod has the thing that subs can go underneath ships!!!

The beauty of Total Annihilation is that the rock/paper/scissor properties of weapons are not hard coded, but derive from abiding to simple physic law. Any shot can hit plane, however, plane are fast, so even though plasma shots can hit plane, they are usually so slow they miss it. With some luck or the right condition, plasma hit planes, but generally the plane is already gone when the plasma reach the place it was. Guided missile, on the other hand, although detonating in a less harmfull explosion, have an easier time hitting plane, since they track them.

indeed, but the flak shells move incredibly fast, have a large aoe, and (in ca/ba?/aa?) have a special damage boost vs planes

...but they're still plasma. Answers the original question etc.

Or EMGs but I think no mod uses those.

Whoa, they do?

BTW, bombs are the same as plasma, it's actually possible for bombers to hit each other.
