Hi!
As a novice player, I use to combat against AI opponents.
After upgrading with
spring_0.75b1_update.exe
AIs work no more.
spring_075b2_update.exe
does not solve the problem.
This issue appears with mods "XTA v8.1" and "XTA v9 Gold 0.1", but it behaves different way according to XTA/AI
When using XTA v9 Gold 0.1 + KAI.dll, opposite commander runs from its starting point at the eastmost side of field to the northwest corner, destroying everything and building nothing.
When using XTA v8.1 with AI.dll or KAI.dll, the opposite commander starts at the same weast side of the field my own commander appears, EVEN WHEN TEAM RECTANGLES (east/west) WERE PREVIOSLY SET, and stays immobile.
I guess this issue has something to be with spring_xxx_update not updating the AIs. I'll try the full installer to check it.
[EDIT 13:39 GMT]
Cleaning the whole Spring folder and installing the regular installer does not help, instead it brings out some issues solved in the previous mix of mods I had in my spring folder, such as:
- CentralBuild AI not working (units refuse to build things)
- Economy AI not working (all units roam looking for something to build. This issue could be map-related since i was using a map without metal).
I think I'll turn back to 0.74.
Does spring_0.75bXX_update update AIs?

Never use a starting box with an AI, they arent supported and theres no way for an AI to pick a position.
You have to use .cheat and .team and switch to the AIs team and place the position for them.
Also greenfields and speedmetal arent godo AI maps. Training on these maps can seriously warp your economy skills and those of the AI aswell as your impairing judgement on unit power by modifying the unit speeds with a typemap. I suggest if you must play speedmetal, play one of the variant without the borked typemap such as the many speedball and speedmetal variants.
And please, no anti-speedmetal bashing "oh we can play this if we want", I know what I'm talking about I've been there and done it and come away and seen many others. There are plenty of maps out there that do the same thing but arent nearly as borked.

So you think the problem is the AI is in training mode, since I *updated*?
Could be. This could explain also the vanishment of AI issues in the previous AI version (Centralbuild not working and Economy AI crashing after building of first metal maker: these issues disappeared without me doing anything).
When I discovered the flaw I was using speedmetal, and then I continued with Speedmetal 'cause this map is easier to control (you don't need to climb any mountain to look for immobile enemies)
P.S. I only used the starting boxes after discovering my enemy was put in my own West side in an East-West map. Previous version of Spring worked OK.
