Anti-radiation missile

Post by VonGratz »

What you think about radar detection when ON only? It can enable very near true ARMs (anti-radiation-missile :P ) for eletronic warfare.
Im already testing ARMs, but would be better that the radars can be detected and hit only when active.

Imagine two to five adv radars in a big battlefront.....

I think that its not is much microman..and...You dont ever needs to turn-on /off radars in a cat x mouse game, because missiles have a limited range and radars are defended.

basically it would be a missile weapon that would track any unit that emits radar... but would only work if the radar was on; if not the weapon couldn't lock on and therefore wouldn't fire

IRL they are used to take out the Radar (which are usually the C&C) vehicles in AA batteries to allow friendly planes safer sorties...

IIRC the US used those types of missiles launched by f117s (stealth Fighters) in the opening days of the Persian Gulf.

Those missiles were used as far back as the Vietnam war. When USSR supplied heavy AA missile systems to North Vietnam, USA started to use anti-radar missiles to destroy them before a bombing run by B-52s (else the bombers had very high casualties).
First tests of such weapons predate even that. At the end of WW2 Germans tested some kind of gliding bomb that guided itself to the signal of UK radars and landed in a radius of 10 meters from the signal source. They had no time to begin making those bombs this late in the war, though.
