Basically, if JJ dosn't like your CPU, he'l kick you from his game. Thats about it.

Its a good idea to select good CPU for some battles (Green field particularly where air patrol always make lag)

But for an altored divide or others normal battle its stupid i think ...

I wouldn't mind a CPU test... but it should be something more integrated into spring... not some external program which sends data to a database somewhere...

The client should have a standardized benchmark program which would report the computer score when you login to the lobby server... imho it should replace the current CPU speed varaible...

I shall state before somebody else mentions it, that AFLobby will not have this built in at a later date despite what the files description says. Its simply to controversial, lacks crossplatform capability, and doesnt give a 100% reliable result. My own score fluctuates around an average by as much as 200 points eitherway. That and the lack of gpu and connection stats. Should the community perform a great U turn and objection to the system become nonexistant

imo a cpu model name + ram amount + gfxcard name + internet connection (T1/DSL1MB/DIAL UP etc) would suffice, no need for benchmark programs.

Smoth, while you were in your self imposed exile from the spring forums there was a big discussion thread on the lobby and the cpu speed field and how inadequate it was. Some people thought a benchmark giving a basic number would do the job and I entertained the thought saying if such a system worked effectively I support it in aflobby.

So JJ made such a system and started using it, and set up a website for ppl to check the stats, numerous people objected and there was a long arguement, which wasnt helped when JJ started hosting battles and required ppl to use spring mark kicking them if they didnt get a high enough score, or so people said. I believe if it wasnt for the kicking stuff then spring mark would be a heck of a lot more feasable, and the kicking really re-inforced the elitism arguement.

Yeah ... i agree cause now i see some cpu speed at 1.7 which are fine and some at 4.0 which lag a lot

The Benchmark made by jj doesn't take care about the connexion ...
Isn't it possible to make a ping time response ?

Agreed. It should be a stress test on medium detail ( standard ) and it would count how many frames you get within a timespan of lets say 30 minutes. And that score should be your 'CPU' isntead.

edit: wait is this already in use <3?

GPU speed dosent matter, if somone has a slow gpu, it only effects that particular individual - they might get a slow frame rate, but aslong as their cpu is coping okay, the game will continue to run at the normal speed for all the other players. Infact it will still be running at hte same speed for the person with hte low fps, as the actual game simulation hasnt been slowed down.

having a score based in gpu perfmance wont show you if they will slow the game down or not.

Not true, laggy gpu can slow down cpu performance in turn impacting the simulation. It can slow the entire computer down grealty and raise lag.

it's still not goi9ng to matter if you have a decent cpu

And I'm sayign ti does matter ebcause gpu lag can cripple a game just as badly as cpu lag

Logically I mean if your gpu was slowing down your game, relatively it would slow down everyone elses becuase everything has to be synced up right? I mean if your running at speed .8 everyone else cant be at 1.0 becuase it wont be synced right?
