EDIT: Don't forget to check the previous page for my imperial level 1 anti-air turret!

Another treat, largely because I was so pleased with it:

GNomehs still alive??!? WHEREZ :O

btw that is REALLY GOOOD FREAKIN UVmapping - but it looks too blobbish. Needs something to break it up more. It looks like a big blob, although a shiney and well-realistic blob... Maybe make the "inside" bits a distinguishable color, along with, say, the cockpits? Maybe put a little clone trooper helt paint on the cockpit? :D

What do you mean by "blobbish"?

And, there is no way to paint a face onto the cockpit and not have it not look awful. The only way to do that properly would be to actually have the clone trooper in the cockpit, and even then we don't have any alpha transparency in order to make the glass.

Given this is an RTS, and that is a 512*512 map, It's difficult to get much more detail and distinction then that.

Well instead of the dark grey on the underside, how about a more solid darker grey? Like, closer to black?

*just suggesting*

and whar is my gnomey :<

Well, that lower dark grey was quite anti-canon, and I just put it in there to break it up so that it wasn't all grey. It is also referencing WWII fighter plane painting, where the top would be painted a different colour to the bottom (though usually the lower half would be brighter). I think that making it all black would potentially draw too much attention to what is essentially just an aesthetic flair, and not the primary focus of the model.

I think what is making it look blobish is that it is too shineh for grey paint, add to that no crisp high lights and we may have a reason it looks "blobish" I thought it looked more gooey, can I see the texture map?

ignore the blobbish comments I think its fine as it is, no its brilliant. If that were my model I'd be proud of it.

Having said that. theres always room for improvement.

af, we are saying it here that means that the case will still be thus on release. It is better that we mention it now and the issue is addressed now versus later on.

Did I say Gnome? I meant... not gnome... >_>

I don't consider myself a full-time texturer, most of my textures have been hacked together from premade textures and stealing greebles from photos, etc. It really isn't my thing, and I don't really claim to be very good at it, and it takes me days just to get one right. aGorm is on an unfortunate hiatus from SWS currently due to RL issues, so we're in quite desperate need of a talented texture artist who is willing to put in the hours. If you guys know anyone, not necessarily from the Spring community, who would be interested, please put them in touch with me. This is probably the biggest reasons keeping SWS from a release any time in the near future, as the old 3do stuff just looks so awful next to the new s3o stuff, we really can't release them together.

Anyway, here is the laat texture. Try to avoid nicking my greebles, even though I nicked them myself from other sources ;) (you might spot some stuff taken from vassago's earlier work >_> ). Also, I really can't claim most of the credit for this, as much of the work was... NotGnome's. I really just put the final polish on (and it took me the better part of a day to do it... :/ )

I also spent a lot of time on the reflection map on this, as I think it's an area that can really sell a model, but not many people have put much work into working with it. I think it comes off quite nicely with a "Tainted metal" effect on the main body.

The only stuff I blatantly ripped was from Vassago's textures which were made for SWS. Given that it was made for SWS, I feel it was fair game. The rest was either from pictures (for example, I pieced much of my imp AA together from hacking together bits from a photo of an old coastal battery somewhere in Europe (portugal I think it was) or from free pre-made filter/texture sites.

Again, I'm no texture artist, but I can get the job done to a level that doesn't look awful next to the work done by people who really know what they're doing (aGorm etc).

Well then, I'm no texturer either cuz that looks as good/better than most of my stuff x.x

Yeah, make sure to keep your secondary textures in high gear.. They make a load of difference.

in all honesty I think if you really wanted to make it shine you would remove the reflectives and only use them on the glass of this model. In all honesty the texture looks more like painted grey panels with a lot of dirt on them. Having something without reflections on the main body and just on a few key areas can also look good.

However, I also have to consider that this is a bad shot, could you post some others?

It'll be released when you stop asking. You've been told at least twenty times now - it'll be done when it's done, not before.
