One time on a bridge a Elite tried to dodge one of my grenades.

He threaw himself of the bridge. :D

But yea, Halo does NOT live up to the hype. It's a pretty good console shooter, but nothing else really.

BigSteve wrote:Halo was awesome, I liked the little grunts especially the stuff they would blurt out about you being a green devil as you were attacking them, halo also had possibly the most satisfying assault rifle in any fps
This part was sarcastic right? :|

Honestly I've got nothing against the assault rifle, I thought it wasn't something special, but handy for the flood and good enough for most fights, but I thought the assault rifle was like the most hated thing about halo, even for the hardcore fanboys. Not to say you're one of those. I just mean, I've never heard something nice said about it tbh. Mostly just talking about how it's so wimpy.

Now, the shotgun on the other hand... even I like the shotgun.

Tribes 2 is total gosu.

Awesome game I wish there was a 3rd with similar quality. Pity that Vengeance totally sucked.

Halo sucked. Terrible level design, and really terrible MP, and the dumbest ending gameplay I have ever suffered through. As a huge fan of Marathon (that's what got me started making video games, actually- I made a couple of "mods" for Marathon, in ancient days when pixelated dinosaurs roamed the Earth) I was incredibly annoyed with the Master Chief.

One of my friends thought that the Endless Buggy Ride at the end was very cool. He also didn't get tired of Half-Life II's swamp-boat madness, even after it dragged through more than 30 minutes of "yeah, this engine can do vehicle sim and nice water, now license it, bitches".

I'm a lot harder to please. If a FPS doesn't require serious shooty and dodgy skill, it's a complete waste of time- you don't see John Woo's heroes wasting bullets- you see them leap athletically through the dismembered corpses of the stage-props, landing accurate rounds at lightning speed, while making the bad guys look like they're standing still.

Sorry... as long-time hard-core Counter-Strike player (Beta 5, baby!), who was weaned on Quake... Halo is strictly for pansies with poor motor control and bad twitch skills. Seriously, if a FPS doesn't bother saluting the Headshot God and place a bloody offering before the Demon of Circle-Strafing, with a generous gesture towards innovations in control and UI (The Specialists, oh yeah!) and some gratuitous Phun with Physix (HL I and II, Painkiller)... I don't give a rat's ass about it. Because, in the end, FPS's differ in only three ways that matter:

1. Art (that includes the "story", if it matters at all)
2. Weapon design
3. UI

Good FPS games know that weapon design is the chief deity among the faithful. Bad ones have weapons that either take 80 billion hits to kill small mayflies with the flu, or everything is a one-shot-kill, and it's down to random-number generators and how well the designers get the AI behave like a human, and not like a turret that navigates between portals.

It was a big deal mainly because Bungie managed to dumb down the game enough that people could play it on a console (blasphemy!) and console retards, being console retards, bought it for the same reason they bought Goldeneye- it was their chance to feel like a Railgun Hero... without having take on the truely hardcore nutjobs like I used to be, who tuned up their CRTs to match their ridiculous FPS, used console mojo to tune the game to their rigs, and actually practice the art of head-fu like the sport it has become.

Halo MP is weak. Most of the weapons are terribly designed, and everybody ends up using the same things, map after map. The much-vaunted vehicles are lame and unrealistically weak, and ... why am I bothering?

You probably played MP Halo on a CONSOLE, which makes you a retarded gerbil. Don't take it personally- you're probably a nice retarded gerbil, and talking about FPS games brings out the trash-talker in me

And if you played it on a PC... I'm sorry, but that's like, a waste of a good PC. You could play The Specialists, which requires actual skill, instead.

Not unless I am actually a cute MIT grad student whose friends call me "Kell" because modern attention spans have rendered "Kelly" too long, or you've just graduated from a-cups to Plush, have long, red tresses, and have never been mistaken for a humpback whale. Oh, and are female, to boot. I have my standards 8)

But eh, it was a good post, yes? Work is in high gear, which seems to have brought out the Sarcasm Monster in me this evening. That, and I'm procrastinating, instead of writing new physics code :? I should go stare at Scriptor and try to make simple trig render the complex, simple, now

To be honest, Quake and Counter Strike are terrible games as well. Quake is the run and fire, with little else - Counter Strike is like watching Pong with worse graphics and less realistic weapons.

Maybe I'm being harsh, but that is one popular title, unlike Starcraft, that I've never enjoyed.

I don't think you recognize purposeful hyperbole for the sake of comedy.

That said, I did find them dull nonetheless. CS is repetitive, Quake just felt wrong when the third one came out.

hunterw wrote:system shock 2 was a good game but the graphics are possibly the most shitty on earth
I call it: Mods. And sound, man! SOOOOOUND! Sound is one of the more underated parts of game design. I mean, sound is so friggen important, but everyone talks about graphics. Graphics smaphics, I want some really friggen good sound.

And I agree with everything Argh just said.

Can I call you Kell?

So Argh, are you saying you don't like halo? I couldn't tell from your posts, I think you should elaborate :P

Well, I like it, it may not take as much skill as CS or quake but not everyone wants to compete with the hardcore fpsers online in CS and quake etc, not that I can't, but my experiences with those kinda ppl /communities were a nightmare anyway. I wouldn't know about halo online, though I can imagine. :)
Halo was fun for me because of the social aspect as much as anything tbh, me and my brother could kick back with a few beers and have a good laugh playig co op, or we could do the same with a few friends and link the xboxes together, the weapons were fun to use and it was just fun to play really, different strokes for different folks I guess.

And no Caydr I wasn't being sarcastic, I actually really like those little grunt things hehe, it was just so satisyfying blasting them with the machine gun - probably only cos their squarks were annoying as hell though and killing them finally shut them up :P
