Ok.
I have to interfere.
What are you peopel talking about?
Ba is the most balanced mod at the moment and is the most played mod as well.
Instead of making thousands of varients i think that peopel should just stick behind two main mods which are Balanced Annihilation and XTA.
I know this is very unfair to say cause each person has a right to do his own stuff and realizing his own ideas but fact is it took a lot of time until a balanced mod like ba finally appeared and its pretty logical that the delicat balancing would be done partialy by one of the best players in the community. Most important thing is balance, than me the visual effects.
balancing a mod to make it as balanced as ba is at the moment is very hard that is why i suggest all you great developers invest your time in a mutual effort and not many scattered projects.with all due respect through out the time i have been palying Spring mods there were always 2 dominant mods:Xta and some other Ta variant like aa or ba.the community is not big enough to activly contain more mods than that at the moment so im saying lets just try to maintain XTAnd BA at top quality and add all the axisting visual effects and gameplay tweaks and so on.
I understand that when the major crashing problems are solved there will be an attempt to advertize and bring TAspring to the attention of big numbers of RTS players. That is an even stronger reason to make 2 max 3 mods which will be absolutly great and would use all of srings capabilities so that when and if the players start joining in they wont immidietly leave.Learning to play 1 mod is tough enough...
It always easy to say "unite and work together" but i think an effort to bring most of the devs to work on 1/2 main projects and collaborate to creat one experiance in needed and if succesful would yield positive results.

BA = AA offshoot after I stopped developing AA about a year ago.

Reason I work on AA isn't for anyone else really, I just enjoy modding. So it's counterintuitive to "join" another effort, especially since my only real area of expertise requires direct creative control, that is, balancing. AA was coming along nicely until I stopped having time to test changes or, generally, work on it as I used to. If a few people play AA, it means I have a few people to play it with too, so I can't just work on it in secret and not tell anyone... What good is a hobby if you have nobody to share it with?

It's the same reason I universally answer people asking if I'd like to join their mod with, "Thanks for the offer, but I enjoy modding independently more. If you'd like any help with specific things, I'm happy to lend a hand though."

The problem is, Spring's community seems to be dominated with people who have strong personalities and opinions. We all have different ways we like to do things, we all have different standards, we all have different points of view on various important topics. The bigger problem is, almost all of Spring's modders are very balance-oriented in their skills... I'd take a wild guess that BA probably has very few, if any, entirely new units. It's a balance-only mod, same as AA is. So let's get this straight: there's AA, BA, CA, probably soon DA and EA... all almost entirely balance-oriented. That many diverse opinions can't come together on a single project realistically, especially when it's not an original one, but something that's been rehashed for almost a decade now by a hundred different groups.

Another problem is, not everyone is happy with just modding, they aren't happy unless their mod is heavily played... that just doesn't happen very much. For Spring's entire history, one mod has dominated, while the others go unnoticed. This makes for a lot of discontent and perceptions of being looked down upon, so that now many modders probably wouldn't work together given the most amicable conditions.

Now what was all this about voice of caydr...? I haven't asked anyone to speak on my behalf, if that's what you're getting at. :?

Players are not forced at gunpoint to learn how to play AA, BA, XTA, CA, NOTA, Gundam, Kernel Panic, Nanoblobs, E&E and CRAZY GIMMICK MOD #504. All I ever play is BA and occasionally Fuck the Fark. Anybody I introduce to spring plays BA. I (personally) wouldn't curse XTA upon anyone.

Also, I honestly don't think learning a new mod is that difficult. The difference between "playing" and "playing well" takes some time, but nobody should expect to be hyper-awesome-dominant when they start. Spring seems to have a decent enough number of people stick around, despite the large number of mods and fairly high learning curve.

Why keep two mods? Why not abolish XTA as well? In fact, why bother supporting mods at all? Wouldn't it be better if we had the Standard Mod that everyone would have to work on so we could finally force some qualified modders to make BA as pretty as Spring can be?

Okay, then... instead of making my own mods I'll put my ideas into BA... First let's make KBots invincible unless an enemy KBot is next to them, then we'll make vehicles tiny, cheap and spammable cannon fodder, kick most of the defenses since they wouldn't do much against KBots anyway, introduce hero KBots, cut air down to a few anti-ground support units, remove naval completely, drop those silly superweapons, oh and use Lua to make the build system work like C&C while resources are taken by capturing points as seen in Z or Company of Heroes.

You see why everyone has their own mod?

ok.You worte that there is a difference. You can play and you can play well.
exactly if a person starts playing and wants to be a bit better so he can have fun and win a few games he doesnt want to have thousands of mods around.I know that thats not your concern cyder and if your modding for you own enjoyment and your ultimate goal is not nessecarily make the whole community play your mod and not another one than its great.
I do want to say that I personnaly think you must be a very good player in order to make a very good balance. If you dont agree with that than you probably think that the fact that day's balance is the most balanced yet and many of the best players in the community will agree on that is just a couincidence? I doubt that.i think that if your working on your own balance you still have to be in constant contect with the communities top players.

Your abilities to sarcasticly eleborate on the logical mistakes i presumably made are not aprriciated and there is grey not only black and white. aa/ba/ca are very much alike.yes they have a few different units and unit stats are different but a mod is not just about blance is it. nad maybe a solution can be found after much deliberation and communication to satisfy the majority of ta type moders.

They're not logical, they're grammatical/English-related. Seriously, your posts are hard to read.

Anyway, if a plater wants to be a bit better so he can have fun and win a few games, he can just ignore the other mods. I'm really not seeing your point - MORE mods actually makes Spring BETTER, because more people can play whatever they want.

Honestly, I'm not seeing your point in any of this.

You're expressing your ideas badly. The difference between your post and others here is the difference between a decent still-life of a bowl of fruit and a house with a square window and a little curl of smoke coming out of the chimney.

BA IS WHAT IT SAYS, A BALANCED AND PLAYABLE VERSION OF ABSOLUTE ANNIHILATION

BA= LOL BALANCE
CA= ITS A SCREENWIDE FIREWORK SHOW YAY \:D/

NOW I COUNT 1/3 OF THESE BALANCE ORIENTED, HOW MUCH WAS ALMOST ENTIRELY?

"lol wezels"? A typo in one version after two years, and all it gets is "lol wezels"...

Seriously, that's a great picture though isn't it?
