I dont know much of Spring programming but..It is possible to substitute GAFs 8 bits for GIFs 24 bits or some another format that will show more colors????
For example, a movie of a waternuke explosion by Ender in 24 bits is VERY cool to see .

Those types of animations are taken care of by the Spring Particle system. No GAF files are ever used.

Spring have GAF files in folders.Is it only as reference?

I would like to colaborate with some new animations as I read that new nukes and water explosions are needed, and I made or customized alot for my pet Mod - the never ending TA-BattleFleet and new weapons for some new units -the Alkemist http://www.tafansite.com/index.php?page ... QgPSAzMDE1- for example, but I dont have any idea, as you can see above, about the files I will use to do it.
Can someone helps me to colaborate??

Look into the particle systems. There are no "animations" as you would think. Explosions/smoke/etc are all driven by the GL engine.

Spring has .gaf in its taenheter.ccx only because the SY didn't took the time to clean them up. The reading of .gaf hasn't been coded.
