Supcom or C&C3

Post by smoth »

Which one has the most interesting effects?
Which one has the most interesting Campaign?

I am looking for something to study and pick apart so I can use ideas from them. I am leaning towards C&C3 for effects but supcom for story...

what do you gents think. Also, please try and not fanboy it up, I don't want to hear "C&C3 because KAINE!" I think kaine is weak, so give me a real reason, as in, this aspect really engaged me because: X

cc3 has a few littl oddities, specially with the scrin, but supcom has many many small hidden gems that are overlooked and are barely noticeable, such as small units moving around inbetween buildings. units rallying into a square formation after leaving a factory, enginers being able to help long missile construction, right clicking the missile button for autobuilding, th radar and sonar view mode etc...

Its the little things. And those things made supcom much easier to manage.

I also like the aircraft situation of GDI and Nod in CC3 with only having room for so many aircraft per airhangr, and having to build more of the buildings in order to support more and more.

The building construction system was also quite handy at times, and I like the 'rig', or at least the concept of the rig.

Supreme commanders story imo is better than that of the CC3 story. Having completed both UEF and Aeon campaigns, and gotten far into the GDI campaign, the cinematics of CC3 are ncie but the storys rather plain and linear, there's not much substanc to the actual story its just covered up in heaps of so called atmosphere they've tried to inject from what they believe it should be like. Skirmish situations in CC3 for me usually involve an 8 way ffa where 2 of the AIs (90% chance they're Nod) decimate the other players and then either decimate or get decimated by you, and usually follow a predictable pattern when the same game setup is used.

And contrary to common belief, not all explosions in supreme commander are white puffs.

I'm not reading your posts anymore until you go back to using a color that can be read!

Bought both, at first i didnt liek supcom at all. It was a gigantic porcfest until t3 and then XP spam. But the game grew on me, i learned how to crack a turtle and the game really unfolds. It has really nice depth hidden under a turtle's shell.

And CC3 i really liked from the beginning, the FMV's, the gameplay was really good. However i kinda tired after a while. The campaigns are really the selling point of that game.

All in all id reccommend supcom. Really. It seems to be the hip thing around here to hate on supcom, but i just came back from an 1v1 withthe supreme AI and had great fun erecting firebases, doing covert ops etc. its a solid game.

C u C 3 has way to many Blur & Distort Effects (Fire, Engieexaust etc.) when you have Scrinships over your Base - some Firehawks and Orcas... and burning buildings - you see something... LSD like blurrying - can be very odd to human eyes...

I would prefer it if the Smoth Special Effects Extractor would point on Supcom

FOr all the TextColourwhinys just mark it - voila..

Yeah, I didn't like that on CNC3, they had the blur effect EVERYWHERE.

Dont get C&C 3 smoth, the C&C series of games has many little aspects of gameplay that are hold overs from the first game. If you're not familiar with them from having played the first game, they can ruin your view of the game. Given the fact that you have never played any other Westwood game other than generals, I honestly would not recommed it to you at all. Go if with supcom if you absolutely must get one. You are not going to get away from the fanboism of C&C anymore than you can escape the canon of gundam..

Go with Supcom it is its own game and has no baggage to confuse you...

C&C 3 is an attempt at a remake of C&C1 with some alternative features. Like upgrades and an actually useable ion cannon.

It also needs lower specs than supcom, so my advice would be "Supcom for high end machines, C&C3 for low ends."

I went with C&C 3 after reviewing the demos for the two of them, things like garison'ed buildings, transformation animations, construction animations etc.
