How to get XTA/BA players to play non-TA mods
Moderator: Moderators
don't panic.
It's that time of the month people start to eat eachother hats again.
People who are around here for longer then 3 month has seen it far to often.(Alantai refers to it). Spring houses a couple of weird guys. And has been overrun with players who are little more related to the project then "I play this game, and the player is god". People forget it's an open source community with a project what is in beta stage. Don't go all strange when the mods are not near compleation as well.
As for site maintainment: there isn't much. As Tobi suggested: if soneone stood up to maintain a site for spring. he will hear it. If Alantai is willing to maintain the spring site. I cheer for him. I think the current site is out of date, and fails to support the current size of the community.

What? There's several complete mods already!! That some are still worked on doesn't mean they aren't complete! It's like any program, especially open source ones: FireFox, Photoshop, Internet Exporer, whatever, they were complete, yet new versions are made up all the times! Same for mods, paste complete yet keeps on improving! And even if Smoth disagree about the completness of Gundam or Fang about the completness of EE, I say they are still complete, considering how you can play them without feeling like they miss anything.the mods are not near compleation as well.
And that you pretend that there is no complete mod is the reason that fight broke in the first place.
I would also contest saying Spring is still in beta. But for open source free project the limit between beta and final is very blurry. If Spring is in beta, it's the same kind of beta that gmail was in, that was better than any other webmail while in beta, and after a year dropped the word "beta" without changing anything else.
And it's high time everybody do Kernel Panic!

I'm a member of SEVERAL forums that are MUCH more hostile, trollish, lulzy, witty, and fun than this one. The difference is that people here take everything entirely too seriously - especially themselves.
This forum would be much better off if everyone realized that:
1) You are not awesome.
2) Neither is anyone else, with the exceptions of the devs.
3) If you are an idiot, you will be made fun of.
4) If you want rational discourse, then gtfo internets and go talk to real people.
5) Internet makes you stupid. No exceptions.
5a) As long as there is internet there will be drama. No exceptions.
Those forums are : pokemonFofo, weed&peace, funForJokers, friendsOfCats ...Felix the Cat wrote: I'm a member of SEVERAL forums that are MUCH more hostile, trollish, lulzy, witty, and fun than this one.
Its sure they are better than this ^^
BA/XTA are the only "Total Annihilation" mods others are only good jokes ^^

I'm not talking about /b/, kthxbye.smoth wrote:we are trying to get things accomplished here.. this is not /b/.Felix the Cat wrote: I'm a member of SEVERAL forums that are MUCH more hostile, trollish, lulzy, witty, and fun than this one. You can get stuff done without being an arrogant fool.
Ironically enough very few things are actually accomplished in this forum... most things are either done by individuals and posted here, or done elsewhere and posted here, etc.
The discussion here is basically worthless from an improvement/development/accomplishment standpoint. Possible exception: Development forum. That's a technical forum though and I'm not technical enough to evaluate its success.
Other than that the forum's basically an open wiki/public release area - not a collaboration tool. The collaboration tools are elsewhere, because collaboration tools are not, as a general rule, subject to the sort of public membership that this forum is. That's because the public's opinions are generally shit anyways, and you're better off without them. See also: Mods subforum.
tldr version = lol internets
Lordmatt, I would appreciate it if you could keep unfounded judgements like that to yourself. Nobody likes being attacked and I dont appreciate being attacked by you. I'd request that post be snipped or deleted by a moderator for being offensive. Please go read swiftspears rule sticky.LordMatt wrote:I really think AF has gone off the deep end...
Tobi, slow cms' are badly maintained cms', and I'd find it easier to click edit, change a word, then click save, than to open in dreamweaver, edit, save open filezilla, upload, refresh. And cms sites usually stick out because the creator cba changing from the default theme and just hacks in a banner or two. Thats why wordpress and phpnuke sites stick out so badly.
But adding 100 pages of content isnt going to take minutes no matter what you use, and I never suggested it would, you didnt ask or appoint anyone to add or maintain content, indeed there are people willing, they sit around editing the current wiki and writting faqs for mods.
If you need help, just say so. Would it be better if I put together a few people to maintain such a site and if you're happy with where it's going we talk about things again? As you said we're an open source community and sometimes I wish people here would ask for help more often instead of letting something die off and fade, if only to gain re-assurance.
Felix, please stop being so hypocritical and offensive. Most of the last few pages has been people trying to stop you derailing this thread, and you attacking me unprovoked. I find these attacks hurtful, demoralising, and insulting, even more so that you're not contributing anybody but simply trolling as much as possible.
Please, be quiet or contribute something constructive. You're not a top rank player, your not a coder, your not a developer, all you seem to do is complain in threads in order to derail them then flame. You contribute nothing to discussion, and a lot of what you say sometimes is deeply hurtful, and I see no signs of an apology.
Ok, I guess I go maek some threads with stuff which needs to be done IMHO soonish.
EDIT: though I just don't really care about a better website ATM so maybe I forget about that... plus I don't have final say anyway as it ain't my server, but I wouldn't mind adding discussing website stuffs with Fnordia to my to do list.
EDIT 2:
Heck it even ends up in recent files list so next time I want to edit it I just click that, then edit, then save.
(Heh, recent example: I use ksnapshot in KDE to make screenshots, and guess at which directory it points by default? Indeed, fish://tvo@www.osrts.info:/home/tvo/public_html/spring/. So its just maek screenshot->save and it sits on the server.)

EDIT 2:
Thats on windows... On linux I can just (passwordless) fish into the server, edit file, save. (fish is file browsing protocol over ssh)Tobi, slow cms' are badly maintained cms', and I'd find it easier to click edit, change a word, then click save, than to open in dreamweaver, edit, save open filezilla, upload, refresh.
