If Caydr is god and we all must bow to him, then using the name of his mod is bad.
If Caydr is a crum who wouldnt do anything right, then using the name of his mod is worse.
Either way, he didnt want to give away the executive power over his mod when Noize asked him to incorporate the BA changes, so its probably sensible not to use it in this instance.
Doesnt matter what caydr is or isnt, AA 5.x needs a new name so people know its Nixas Thing.

Oh god are we still ranting over the name, do you play the mod for the name or gameplay.
AA is a name people are familar with and shares the same gameplay style I'm heading for. So people will respond to AA for its gameplay not its name. So far I've had only positive comments from everyone but people that are making or have made AA forks... I wonder why?
So as this is this and that is that... I'd like to announce that as of now for the 95% of people that like what i've done it is staying AA, and for the 5% AA fork modders, sorry but bl.

if it's really about gameplay, people will play regardless of the name right? so why not change it?
how can you not see that using the original AA name is a slap in the face to other fork developers? you decided alone that yours is more true to the original, and that may be true, but it does not warrant your use of the original mod's name if you don't have permission. there is a pretty legitimate reason people are bitching at you, and that's because the name recognition will help your fork become popular.
saying that the name doesn't matter and only gameplay does is a pretty hypocritical remark. just change it and shut everyone up. your mod will still be successful with a different name, don't worry.

What I dont understand, is that your all freaking out about whether we can use AA as the name of your mod because its disrespectful to caydr and he might get mad or some stuff.
1. Caydr is gone, hes way gone.. he is not coming back guys and honestly I dont think he cares anymore at this point..
2. Even if he did come back (which I seriously doubt) I still dont think he would care, he wasnt that kind of dude.. I really doubt hed give a shit
3. In case you all forgot He was intending to rename it to Abolition down the line at some point, so even he was abandoning AA, so clearly he didnt care about that name..
On top of this you all seem to defend him at all points yet clearly several dozen members of this community at the drop of a had picked up and continued his "hard" work with little to know help or coaching. So apparently what caydr wad doing all along was not that hard or you all would not be able to do it so easily. On top of this I guess you all forget how screwy the last couple of versions of AA were before he left, at least I assume they were screwy because you all pretty much jumped straight up on making changes as soon as he looked to be gone. So apparently he did not have all his ducks in a row or else you would not need to alter AA from its last version. So essentially we have the concept that caydr was not doing a good job least not towards the end, and that what he was doing did not require massive amounts of skill. So my question is where is this OMG lord of modding respect coming from. Caydr deserves as much respect as any other person on this forum, but not the amount you people heep on him, he was not that talented of a modder. Move on, use the name or dont, but FFS dont get in a stupid civil war over the matter cause thats just retarded...

This community Drove him away, so shame on all of you that pushed Caydr that way.
He said it loud and clear that he was trying to sabotage his own mod, mostly because of flamers like Forb and other mod team leads that thought AA was stealing too much of the show.
(and rightly so, cause AA fucking rocked, despite its shortcomings)
You guys want to point fingers and cry about a mod name, point that finger at yourself for a change and say "oh shit, never thought of that".

Caydr obviously gives a shit. NOiZE and daywalker obviously give a shit.NOiZE wrote:We would have much rather continued under AA, but we asked Caydr and he didn't let us. So we respected that, and now it looks like you took the name without asking, which is kinda disrepectfull. And i don't recall caydr giving premissions on using the AA name, he gave permission to make forks, like we did aswell.\
Sure, I'll concede - no one should care about Caydr if he's not around anymore. NOiZE and daywalker both still have a legitimate reason to give a shit though, and if you can't figure out why then I don't know what to tell you. Read my last post again I guess, as well as that NOiZE quote.
could someone sum up all "cayds vs other ppl in the community"-stuff in a separate thread? on the one hand it would keep threads like this cleaner, on the other hand ppl (myself included) who dont really know what happened some months(?) ago
anyway, i support the request to rename AA 5.x. Otherwise anyone could release his own version of AA and name it AA X.Y creating total confusion. If someone extends/modifies an existing mod it must get a modified name as well.

Yeah alright, well I'll rename it when I feel it would be the best time, and that time is not now. If I rename it now that would send everything into the shitstorm because its just starting to get played and everyone that doesnt read these forums will get confused.
Anyhow, someone lock this thread, there's no point to it anymore it's not helping me in any way or form

that's exactly what i dislike:Nixa wrote: If I rename it now that would send everything into the shitstorm because its just starting to get played and everyone that doesnt read these forums will get confused.
dont get me wrong, i really like aa 5.0 (its my favorite mod atm), but it's not fair to use the fame of a name/label someone else created to advertise your own mod

Thats exactly the reason why till now I avoided this mod. Reusing a well known name and setting the version number so that it 'looks more advanced' that the competitive product... This is the typical behavior on the open market to trick unaware customers to their own products.submarine wrote:that's exactly what i dislike:

Such a way is in my opinion never really fair and I really dislike to see something like that in an open source community.
Apart from the fact, that I don't thing, that this statement is true; do you really wonder?Nixa wrote:So far I've had only positive comments from everyone but people that are making or have made AA forks... I wonder why?

A long time ago i moderated a Warcraft 3 mod forum.
In our community there were several mods about a concept called "3 corridors" and the BY FAR most popular one was called TE 3.1, for tournament edition. The author of that mod was gone from the community, and finally an expansion pack for Warcraft 3 came out. The expansion pack had many promising features, but mods would have to be remade, and the creator of TE was long gone. This was the perfect opportunity for other, better, mods to get played and move on.
Unfortunatelly, EVERY SINGLE NEW MOD was called "TE 3.1". They would go to the extreme of putting a version number after the 3.1. So you'd have bob's TE 3.1 1.0 and the more advance alice's TE 3.1 1.5, which were totally different mods (they weren't even based on the original TE 3.1)
As a mod of the relevant forum, i announced that i would delete any post regarding any mod called TE 3.1 and after MUCH flaming and teeth gnawing ppl finally renamed their mods and were happy ever after.

The name Absolute Annihilation is directly related to Caydr:s work on the mod.
You naming your own mod under AA is disrespectful for both the modmaker and the community. I know your gonna go diva on this shit and say he doesnt care or some bullshit like that. The truth is that you are misleading people and using other mans work to promote your own stuff.
Im not going to write a book "war and peace, by dostojevski"
So why are you doing it?
Other than the name its good to see someone continuing the work.
