Feature for a later stage

Post by Doomweaver »

Can we have a autocorrect feature at a later stage in development? So 'teh' become 'the', 'ppl' becomes 'people', 'ta' becomes 'TA', letters become capitals at the begining of sentances, 'begining' becomes 'beginning' etc. ? You'd have to have them user defined, so that it can support any language.

Even better would be if it could use OpenOffices autocorrect features.

Will any of this be feasible, or will it just piss ppl off?

You mean in the ingame chat?

I'd rather see the use of googles translator to convert messages in the lobby to respective languages.

Such a feature is very easy to implement (one just needs a hash table and a dictionary written in a txt file), but it would be good to be able to turn it off, as it might get on the nerves of some.
I would welcome a feature like that in the lobby, but I'm not sure I want this in game though.
As for automatic translation, usually, it works so badly that it's pretty useless.

I hate autocorrectors in online chat. They never work right and only pisses off. Mostly I hate poorly preserver words like (bah) and (l) in MSN, they really always manage to shit when I'm writing some code. Also I'm unhappy there aren't preformatted text -ability which auto disables any hypertext system.

One would think if you had a problem with that sorta speech and you found you where in spring and they sued it ingame, my immediate advice would be to send in a welcomin party of flashes as a warning that further use of such language will be joined with an early defeat.

And if watching the person who befouled your standards of words burn and perish before your army doesnt work then just sit in the corner o accept that sh*t happens.

Although why you should have a problem I dont know, it's still understandable and that attitude encourages an elitist predjudice attitude.

However it might be nice to implement a translator. If only there where a modification to the AI interface to allow recieving and parsing of messages instead of only being able to send messages, you could do ti that way then as a plugin...

generally i think a translator would be a bad idea. as said before, most people speak engish, either as a first or second language. however it think this would be a good thing to implement as optional, for those who dont speak english at all. even if it offers a crap translation it would still be better than a different language or not speaking at all.
before having option like that i think id rather see little things added like chat text reduced in size so it doesnt unecessarily take up half the screen, and so you can disable things like sync error warnings (or have them merely appear as a flashing red dot somewhere or something like that).
oh yeah ally talking in battleroom chat? sometimes i think it would be useful... if people dont want to use it they just dont...

People who cant speak a word of english couldnt downlaod spring, for one the downlaod page would appear to be nothing but foreign.

downloading stuff from a site that is in a different language isnt that difficult, i have to do it from time to time and it doesnt prove to be much of a problem. besides, im sure devoted ta players that dont speak english would download spring regardless of whether it is english based or not... i know i would.

just simple, commonly used abreveiations. Seriously, what else could 'ppl' or possibly mean? What damage could autocapitalising 'i' to 'I' do? I don't have a problem with it, but it would be a nice feature. Makes me feel like I am talking to intelligent people :)

ppl= party political lackeys
ppl = Peoples party of lebanon
ppl = poorly produced lyrics.
ppl = pathetic pea lynch
err.......

Anyways I think it woul be a waste of system resources afterrall its obvious what the word is and no need to make unintelligent people seem itnelligent. And i implemented we'll probably have newbies moaning that their chats being changed and report it as a bug and request it be fixed....

Usually the people who have the decency to type legibly (I mean readable; I know what someone is saying when they say "wtf", "ppl" or "3FFA"), they aren't worth playing anyway.
Experience has yet to prove me wrong.

Yes and he is to be thanked for that, however I do feel a poll should have been issued on the creation of this thread.

Message translated automaticly by a program are terribly unreadable. Just try that google translator on a foreign page: usually you can get what's it's about by grabbing a few words, but sentences makes no heads or tails.

As a general rule, I don't like program that thinks I'm stupid and corrects me, because half of the time they are wrong and do more hurts than help.

This is all about peopl being offended by either a program that thinks they're speech is inadequate or a person who thinks that someones speech isnt good enough for them. The latter o which is very snobbish and arrogant, the revious of which is uderstandable and has ironic consequences as zwzsg posted. Untill a poll wit 75%+ yes vote is conducted I thik that discussing this point is futile and will get us nowhere and that this should be the end of it.

However, we DO need a spellchecker integrated in this forum, as every Alantai Firestar post I stumble upon painfully remind me.
