What is it about features

Post by Daan »

HEllo,

I was searching for feature placing on maps i use the old(not sm3) map format. And i made some maps like objects3d, unittexture and features. in the map where i placed the smt and smf file and i tried zip them. Somehow i cant find a tatorial about placing a simple feature. I also made a .tdf file.

i also used the FS.txt to get the feateres sorted. i put this because i didnt know where to put it in the mapconv map. i basicully some the units i used up in the wich was only one feature. so i typed dame.s3o

here is my tdf file

[dame]
{
world=All Worlds;
description=dame;
category=arm_corpses;
object=dame.s3o;
footprintx=4;
footprintz=4;
height10;
blocking=1;
hitdensity=1000;
metal=2000;
damage=10000;
reclaimable=1;
feturedead=rubble;
featurereclamate=smudge01;
seqnamereclamate=tree1reclamate;
}
i put this inside the all worlds map.

I found out other maps have bigger smf files where i only end up with a smnall one. And i am not sure my s3o model has textures but i added a texture anyway in the unittexture file from another map and renamed the file.

Any help is welcome.

ps before zipping i have this map

you need to use .tdf for a feature definition in the actual map.

half the trick of placing a feature is getting the naming conventions and directory structure right... just open a map with a feature that works and look at it un 7-zip, mimic it to the best of your ability, on a VERY SMALL, very basic map until you learn how to place them. THEN go tackle placing features on a real map. after you get used to how they work, consider making your own features, that task, is much harder.

all in all, just try and try again, but don't jump in too deep, if you try something too hard and blow hours and hours, if not days and weeks trying to get it to work with no success, you'll just burnout your desire to get something nice done... trust me, I've done it.
