Computer says no

Post by arkracer »

Well, my computer always worked a charm with Spring, it would play your final frontier, yer XTA, yer BA, anything. But now all of a sudden it doesn't like it. I open it up, start a game and the screen splits into lots of bars and scrambles them up a bit. I would show you a screenshot of this phenomenon, but when I take a screenie and look at it later it looks completely normal.

My specs are... (don't laugh)

Windows XP Home
Pentium IV 2.9 GHz (Not sure what exactly it is)
ATI Radeon XPress 200
1 GB Ram (I'm not sure what type)

Helps?

If screenshots are turning out fine, I'd say your display is broken.

Try having spring run in a window, or at the same resolution as your normal desktop res.

But how could that happen if everything else is fine, including other 3D games like AoE III (and a few others)?

Because it's Ati and Spring uses OpenGL. Ati doesn't like OpenGL.

But on my other computer which also has an (albeit far superior) ATI runs it smoothly.

On my dads oldish laptop the ATI card did retarded things. Can't remember precisely which card; I think it might've been a X600 Mobile. Trippy things like losing the texture for tire tracks and replacing them with blue slime. Or horrible things like terribly flawed API calls that fix one vertex from each face at the origin if the commander is in view. ATI doesn't have consistent OpenGL drivers for their cards unfortunately.
