A mod I'd like to see made: Insect War

Post by Warlord Zsinj »

Just finished watching the movie Antz. Damn that's a good movie.

Anyway, there's this great scene at the start of it where the ant battallions charge at a termite nest, and a massive battle ensues...

Anyway, I was watching it, thinking "man, this would be great in Spring".

While I think it would need some sort of effective melee combat system, it wouldn't be realistic at all. The cool thing about Antz is that while it uses ants, they are basically humans on a small scale. So you could have pebble catapults, and give them little ranged weapons, etc.

You could either have different species sides, such as ants, termites, bees, spiders, etc, or just have two sides with various creatures (along ambiguous lines, as in, the reds and the blues, or more fun lines, such as the IN THE HOUSE side and the GARDEN side...)

Anyway, just my little idea. I wish I had the time and texturing skills to do it, because I know I could make it fun.

... And obviously you would have to make some really great maps where things are at a huge scale, so that a chair takes up half the map or something; but I was planning on making something like that for Spring anyway.

Thats soemthign I missed completely, the sun in spring is always a sun, there's no way to change ti to a moon, or stars or even another planet......

Yah I saw that, it'd be a bit iffy making the units realistic looking tho.

The moon on the pictuers....

Anyway, thats a pretty good idea. I havent seen many good insect/giant since starship troopers or Ants. You could have diffrent kind of insects, but mostly ants i think, since their so many varients. Termites and ants are close freinds, vs the bees and bummbel bees. And the ants/bees could have enslaved units to fight for them enabeling both side to have units that they have NOTHING incommen whit.

Gameplay is that bees are strong in air, but weak and unmobile on the ground (the phew ground troops they have) while the ants are mobile, runnin around like spider tanks, but have a hard time beating bees whit out stationary airsupport. But the ants also can destroy buildings faster then bees. And there could be simple ''mahines'' for both side. Like ''swing catapult'' (a ant jumping down on a stick that lies over a rock wciht in the end trows the rock. And of course kemestry wepons... Bees can have the paralysning wepon spiders have (when that is fixed) and ants could have a spray wepon (pyro style)

Maybe i should be silent now, it almost looks like it was my idea.

Nah, it'd be awesome.

I'm purposely putting my idea out there for people to take, because I can't do it, but I'd love to see it done.

And the insects wouldn't be huge at all, they'd be their regular size; you'd just have whole maps battling over the ------- stove.

I think the best divider between teams would be the House insects and the Garden insects.
So basically, each has its starting territory, being the house or garden, but is expanding and needs more food, so the garden insects are heading indoors, and the house insects are heading outdoors.
That way you have a bunch of map settings, from river maps outside where the hose has leaked, to "king of the hill" type maps fighting over the ------- table.

Inside insects would have house ants, termites, daddy long legs, cockroaches, those sorts of things. More superiority in numbers type gameplay
Outside insects would have bees, spiders, bull ants; more big lumbering powerful units.

And yeah, it would be fun to think of new unit types based on human/insect crossovers, such as a tamed centipede with an ant rider on its back as a sort of armoured attack vehicle, and so on...

You are forgetting the insect that I fear above all others... BEHOLD!

Image

SPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDERS!

There would be small spiders that could paralyze units, big spiders that can tear buildings apart and medium sized spiders that could inject venom into enemies. And the GIANT man eating spiders would be the Krogoth Class units. Also I think the back story to this ant V Bee V Spider war (and don├óÔé¼Ôäót forget Cockroaches) is as thus.

Human kind is extinct! A massive nuclear war devastated the planet, killing every one, except for insects and a few lawyers. The bug├óÔé¼Ôäós received a massive amount of radiation, and just like every B-movie ever made, the Bugs not only got big, they got smart. Now the smaller ones are doing the biding of the largest, smartest one's. The Ant Queen (fastest builder in the game, and can produce everything, but can barley move), the Bee Queen (Hyper Deadly Stinger Attack, named the B-Gun... get it? medium builder but a flyer. Can build half of the tech tree). and finally the Spider Queen (HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE SPIDER. Insanely deadly in melee combat, with all terrain capabilities, the SQ can and will strike fear into the hearts of Ants... and Bee's). Underground is a must, as Ants have no flyers (or at least very few). The one resource is Radiation, which is soaked up by the Queens. This allows them to create larger minions, or at least smaller one's faster! Every once and a while you should be able to create a heir, so if the Queen die's then they take over!

Go forth, my pretties and KILL! KILL! KIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLL!

Hey! This idea is less stupid then i thought!

Have you seen the supreme commanders thing, it looks good with the small and the huge next to eachother like that. Besides spring is a new engine and the untis in it arent any bigger than those OTA was capable of. Break the mold I say!

edit: oh for gods sake zoombie get rid of that spider picture =z *Alantai throws a forest of cookie trees at icky spider*

(by the way, that ATAT is at its normal size. An infantryman is about the size of its foot, the big infantry was just stuffing around)

and on and COMPLEAT non sequiter: Try this game out! It demands to be remade with TA SPRING! THink, massive massive massive massive massive massive massive massive battles, whith hords of infantry, tanks and gigantic titans blasting at each other in the distant future! WHATS NOT TO LIKE!

http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?n ... Liberation

and the best thing is that the game is free! The company that make's it is extinct, and i dont think Gamer's workshop is going to complain if we remake it!

YAY! Thats what i was thinking!

Also do you have the CD? Becuase i got it off the internet, i cant whatch the totaly awsom vidio sequences in the game. Or at least i REMEBER the vidio sequences where awsom!

Also this would make a great TAS mod. You could make single units equal a squad, giant titans, massive battles! All takeing advantage of deformable terrrain!

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGH!
