Interest Check: AA Classic

Post by Ishach »

With the horrible mess that was AA2.2*, alot of fans of AA got frustrated with the weasel spam and eventually BA was formed. Like with AA before it, players adopted the new versions and continued playing the newest version.

Alot of people seem to have forgotten the golden age (for 1v1 competition at least) that was AA2.11. While AA definitely has less balance between individual units, it had alot of factors that just made it alot more fun.

What im asking is for an interest check in a mod that took AA2.11 and the non-selfdestructive changes from AA2.2* made into a mod that wasn't going to be balanced any further.

Here are somethings you might have forgotten about from AA2.11:

Being crippled for energy was a far greater threat, and it needed to be managed smart.

Neglecting AA after 5mins meant you could lose your com any second - you had to be much smarter about pushing your com.

Metal makers as a energy converter, not as a main metal supply. Metal makers were used to soak up excess, not to get 30 nukes on altored divide in 15mins.

Sea was worth teching. Bertha ships made sea a little less useless against a land opponent.

For the speedmetal heroes: hyper radars, bertha tanks, orcone, krogtaar, aegis

This sounds like a pretty good idea. Bertha ships should be added into BA anyway.

I dunno I think the biggest deal is the metal makers, but I reckon at one point ba will have to get over its everything we do is right phase and take a look at that.

You could call it IMBA.

I have to agree - I did prefer AA, particularly for avoiding the excessive metal-maker econ of BA. The only balance change in 2.2 that I liked was the dropping of impact-levels... and even there I missed the graphical impressiveness, but it was nice that L1 units weren't so pathetic against any weapon with a little kick.

I'm not really interested. Yeah, you get your hawt fighters back, Issac, but you're just running a retread. I think BA was a step in the right direction (Though I wouldn't mind some tweaked Bertha Ships... sea is complete crap) but I'm pushing the horizon out further.

This is all pretty interesting to read, from my perspective. What else did people like about older versions of AA? 2.11 is often called the best release of AA, but a lot of people say they prefer even older versions of AA.

one aspect of older version of AA was that tech 3 was not a gimmick that is never reached, i remember back in 1.44 where it was normal for people to tech to 3 and pump out bots. also it seemed more balanced that BA these days, but that just my opinion.

one thing that truly baffled me back in 2.2 super unbalanced days was why didnt anyone just play an older version than complaining all day about how unbalanced it was.
