I have been unable to access my Spring-capable (i.e. 'net-capable) computer for a few days, so I have been playing a lot of other games (mostly Westwood/C&C). In that time, I have gotten extremely used to the right-click scroll method employed in, amongst other games, Emperor: Battle for Dune and C&C: Generals, and I feel it would make a good addition to Spring, if only a relatively unimportant one. It allows you to vary your scroll speed depending on the distance of the mouse from the point where you started to hold down the RMB, and allows you to scroll in every direction instead of just 8, which gives you more flexibility.
Probably this wouldn't work with units selected, but then you'd just have to deselect them and reselect them later.
Right-Click Scroll

For that, you have to move the mouse in direct proportion to the distance moved, and you can't control move speed. RMB scrolling allows you to vary the scroll speed and you can keep scrolling at the same pace without moving the mouse.Ling_Lover wrote:or use MMB?
Again, I know it's very low priority, but I at least would like it, and so, I imagine, would others, primarily those who have come from any 3D Westwood RTS. (There is no EA Pacific. There is only Westwood.)

I wrote this widget as a test to see what functionality is missing
(see the NOTES in the source if that kind of thing interests you).
http://trepan.homelinux.net/spring/mouse_move_view.lua
The widget provides variable scroll speed based on the distance
from the mouse cursor to the original click point. It's only really
useful in the TA view mode (that could be changed).
P.S. If you have an aversion to using default commands, then
feel free to change the trigger button from middle(2) to right(3).
It's also not that hard to disable the trigger if units are selected...
