Import as design map, redraw heightmap, say good bye to contouring. Either that or, import heightmap, resample to 1/2 size, resample back to original size, l3dt redraws it = 32bit heightmap.
Doesn't seem to work for me  .

I make a map in l3dt then export it to smooth things and re-size it, and when i import it back contour lines appear and i cant get rid of then in either of the suggestion FA made in the quote. I'm going to cry soon...

bamb just wrote it to me in a private message since he doesn't have access to this forum:
open the heightmap in photoshop, convert to 16 bit grayscale and do gaussian smoothing, save as png (L3DT can read 16bit png grayscale images).
I'll give it a try now...

Do it 10 times.

Also, it's generally better to import your heightmaps as designmaps, and let l3dt draw it for you.

I resized it 4 times and it didn't do much so i stopped trying, i'll try 10 times the next time. as for importing as design maps - i don't want l3dt to change anything after i'm done tinkering with the hieghtmap so i import it as heightfield so l3dt won't change anything.

As for bamb's advice, it seems to have worked. I took the heightmap, converted it to a 16bit png and ran a very subtle guassian blur that didnt change anything and it works.
