Weapon firing in first-person mode

Post by monohouse »

I think it would be nice to be able to choose which weapon to shoot
not just all the ones available at the moment, some weapon need time recharge, you might wanna save some weapon aside in case some weapon-compatible units come to drop by, say.....

z fire weapon 1, x fire weapon 2, c fire weapon 3 ?
or maybe : ctrl - fire 1, alt - fire 2, space - fire 3 ?

Like the commander, A should fire laser, D dgun. However, I'm not sure what they mean with weapon 3. Maybe reclaim, which should be activated with E then.

However a lot of units have multiple weapons like a pel and skeet or crussie. Crusader should be able to switch it's weapon because you CAN should from a long range, but usually it will move into range, which is not very handy most of the times, since it can already do a lot of damage with a low chance of being attacked .

A is attack and it uses bind a target to the first enemy on each unit. The skeeter's first weapon is the laser, which means it gonna try use it. D, if enabled is the eventual tertiary weapon for all units. You assign a target to the third weapon. Second weapon can not be controlled in Old TA.

z x c suggestion sounds good combined with the mouse click that fires all weapons.

I'd like to be able to aim and lock-on to everything with all weapon types, including aiming at my units. =D

What i'd like to see is multiple ways.

A toggle, on default, it would fire all weapons, when you press 1 it will disable weapon 1, if you press 2 you disable weapon 2, if you press 3, you disable weapon 3, and enable it when you press any of those numbers.

so for the commander, you can basically press 3 to disable the D-gun and fire the laser, or press 1 and then 3 to enable the d-gun. very FPS style but not quite.

I also really want to see the aircraft functionality improved in FPS mode, they are VERY hard to use in FPS mode.

aircraft are hard to to control

add joystick support for aircraft (crazy) or make it so a fixed mouse position will give you a contuious turn and centering the mouse will stop the turn and straighten the plane.
a prefect example is a little free flight sim is ysflight http://www.ysflight.com/ download it and fly a plane with mouse control to see what I mean

and making the camera roll/pitch/yaw with the aircraft would be nice (fixed camera no movement expect with a toggle key maybe?).
that also goes for ground units travelling over bumpy terrain and hills

I'd like to be able to control one weapon, and let the AI control another, which would make it easier to be the gunner on a bomber, etc.

But let's not forget that the FPS mode is more a last minute addition just for the hell of it by the Spring chaps. Unless there are major bugs, I doubt they will put too much effort into it; especially when there are much more pressing things.

Yes, but its a great feature, even if it is just a gimick.

Something as simple as binding weapons to keys wouldn't take much time (I imagine) and could make the FPS mode even more nifty.

If polished a bit, the FPS mode could actually be useful...as it is you can nearly double the range of some cannons by aiming in the air.

And there there's the potential for mods/TCs.

Of course, I was just saying that I thought that the SY's are not the one's to be asking.

Heh, I keep forgetting that the SYs aren't the only ones working on this...too many experiences with closed source/elite team style projects.

I still say that I want units to be able to drive in reverse in FPS AND in RTS mode like in Generals, this adds to unit mobility big time.

Also strafe would be very useful, don't say it looks stupid, since I already though of ways to make it look great and no one really listens.

The best controls for aircraft would be as suggested, Halo banshee style would be good too.
