Map COMPLETED .. Vista-Plains-V1.SD7

I'm around. Mostly play EE and Gundam. Can't stand AA, BA, XTA, OTA...all those TA's. Don't know why...but it might due to the fact that EE and Gundam feel more 'together' in both an artistic and gameplay style. Also EE has some really really cool shotgun mechs. Mmm....shotgun mechs.
And Gundam has Epic Coms. Epic Coms own the skies.
But I digress, I'm around...but normally I see that there are no EE/Gundam games, so I go ahead and make one (time permitting) or (Time not permitting) I log off and do other things.

in an attempt not to sound totally insane i think it could be cool, it will definitely be different.Cabbage wrote:I suggest this for your metal spot texture..
I think you'll agree you'd be hard pressed to find something better
you can even call the map "The cabbage patch". I'm probably gonna regret this post later...

Some maps with metal spots that might go well with your map are:
Deserted_Gullly By FA
Lowland Crossing By Quanto has more variety of the metal patches in Deserted_Gully
Narrow Valley By zorbawic has some others you might consider
Ring Atoll By Noize, has more another.
If you use the ones from FA/Quanto, I suggest you run them through photoshop to make them a little more yellowish to match the texture of your map. I don't know if you can take patches off already made maps, or not, so I put the authors there you could contact for the patches.

Here are a few that I have made. Any of them should work fine for your map

The way that the dark horizont joins the sky in this map is almost magic... gives you some "you are alone here" or "if you die here your body will stay forever" fell... The desert is also pretty cool!
I think you should try to make the "metal markers" as discrete as possible, maybe discretly marking the economical important areas instead of the mexes thenselfes.

Who was I being hostile towards?jackalope wrote:Lordmatt I don't understand why you need to be so hostile about metal spots. Let me remind you of something:
Whoever does harm to an innocent man, a pure man and a faultless one, the evil comes back on that fool, like fine dust thrown into the wind.
Discrete is fine and preferable (my suggested patches are, they would go well with the map IMO, especially if they were run through a photoshop filter, just something that once you recognize it once you can find wherever the metal is without having to flip through screens).
i think jack is talking about your response of (and this is an EXTREMELY loose sumary) "if you want ur map to get played you need patches" which while not exactly harsh isn't exactly all warm and fuzzy...
I would say do what u want genblood but since it seems u have already made ur decision so be it...

Well, the fact is Desert Dunes is a map that is VERY much like what genblood just made that I've never seen anyone play. It has no metal patches. If he wants to avoid that fate, then he needs metal patches and to have some good players play test his map for balance and general playability. I think his map has potential to be good, maybe even make it into a tournament some day, which is why I've taken a active interest in it. As has been best shown by Quanto, probably the best and easiest way for you map to be promoted is for it to be featured in tournaments and highly regarded by expert players in the dominant mod.
umm, Lordmatt is right. Most people need to see the metalspots when moving units or building defences etc... Automatic F4 mode doesn't solve that. Well, some people play in constant F4 mode, which kinda just adds to the point that seeing the metal spots all the time (and not just when placing mexes) is important.
Of course genblood is free to do whatever he pleases, it's his map.
