Heat!

Post by rattle »

Yes that's right, heat. Additional to the health bar a heat bar. When heat level reaches a critical state, the unit dies.

Why?
- microwave tank cooking infantry
- laser tanks cooking other tanks
- parts of a mech explode when it overheats
- girl charming guy making him faint :P
etc.

FBI tags needed:
CanOverheat (0/1)
HeatCritical (or MaxHeat)
CoolingRate

BOS related:
get HEAT_LEVEL
set HEAT_LEVEL (for script based cooling perhaps)

It's no different to the health system so anyone up to do that? :)

While this is a clever idea, hardcoding it would be terrible, since it would be such a rare use. More powerful scripting so modders can implement this themselves would be the real need.

Generally mod defined additional status bars would be nice, heat would be too specific. Wouldn't work with the current limited scripting though.

You're thinking of Earth 2150's laser weapons, aren't you?

I think that heat damage will be interesting then people begin to make units with multiple damageable parts. I mean whats the point of having a game realistic enough for units to be damaged by heat but at the same time unrealistic enough for units to "jump" from alive to death?

That and General's microwave tanks (which exist in reality). How awesome would it be to cook humans alive... in a video game. :P
The real microwave tank actually makes the skin burn because it heats up the water in the cells but doesn't deal any major injuries (depends on output I guess).

Universal statusbars are probably better so you could do more than just heat. Would need an additional tag which specifies if the unit dies when the status bar is full or not.

Yer! The automated demo which showed some laser tanks frying other tanks made me buy it.

This may also make lava possible in Spring.

I've think about that many times...That's a good idea.
This would allow to make moral, power, ammo or fuel...health ?

Status bars could be defined in a tdf file, like armor.txt

Code: Select all

[STATUSBAR1]
    Name=Moral;
    Color=(R G B);
Deathifempty=0; //The unit dies if the status bar get empty
Deathiffull=1; //The unit dies if the status bar get full
    ...

Microwave tanks would be useless against Core (core have no soldiers, only AI AFAIK).
And heat should interact with HP. For example, if heat increases by more than 10% of maximum in one second, then unit gets damage equal to (heat - 10% of max heat possible) * HP%.
I mean... Gator hits flash, flash has maximum heat 500, gator deals 100 heat damage, its 20% of maximum heat, so flash takes additionally normal damage equal to 10% of its HP (depends on mod).

Indeed. EE would benefit massively from this, as would nanoblobs (Argh would manage to slip it in somewhere...), Gundam probably will (don't know that much about the universe), Epic Legions definately will (melta weapons) and probably Gear Commander too (again, don't know that much about the universe), and Battletech would definately.

I wouldnt want all units to have a heat bar too.. it'd have to be off by default unless the mod turns it on.

Every feature request by me is optional stuff, nothing forced upon anyone.

IT is about smoth putting OMG anime in with all kinds of emo and pilots that live to kill large armies while questioning their own existence and shooting rainbows out of their asses, all the while draging on some overly cumbersome relationship story with a homosexual third character for a love triangle complete with hot-blooded-man-tears.... and madness........

followed by sum SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARTA!!!!!!!

If they put it in, the desert GM and desert zaku are going to be VERY USEFUL!

Hell, imagine laval maps with HEAT typemaped sections that should you bring a unit to it they would explode! Along with other areas that reduce heat.. to represent ice worlds and/or moist/wet areas!

I'm completely behind the proposal. Can somebody get some coding worked out for it to help the developers?
