Mirror Donations for Unknown Files

Post by iamacup »

Okay, basically if anyone has lots of web space and some bandwidth, and wants to donate a mirror, contact me :p

Ideally I would like a mirror in Europe somewhere to backup the German one.

Currently we have

3 X USA
1 X Germany

All are with different hosting companies, one is donated.

you dont nesisarily have to host all the back catalogue of files, which comes in at about 7GB. you can instead only accept new files, and then stop when you are full :)

How would the mirror system work? Would it be:

1) User clicks on unknown-files mirror link and automatically downloads from the mirror, withouth vaing gone to the mirror's own web site?

Or

2) User clicks on "download from mirror" link, is redirected to the mirror's website and version of the file, sees the mirror's website, and again clicks once more to actually download the file?

Color me curious.

How much bandwith/month does it take?

Also, have you considered redesigning unknown-files? Make it easier to navigate/rate/discuss the files and what not?

it depends where your mirror was, if you donate a mirror from japan people in UK probly wont use it because it would be slow...

iamacup,
I wouldn't mind helping you design a new theme. Got msn or irc?
