Case conundrum

Post by AF »

When I look at modern PC cases the PCI/AGP/PCI-e cards go at the bottom and the psu at the top with the mobo on the right panel facing the left.

My first computer was the opposite with cards at the top psu bottom mobo on the elft facign right.

Whats got me is that graphics cards appear to be using the wrong side for their conenctions. My geforce FX 5200 is upside down with all the heatsync/fan pointing to the floor, when it should be pointing up =s.

Even the new 8800 would be facing down not up in the brand enw PC I've designed.

And every half decent PC since my original 380mhz PC I've come across has the same issue too. Do I really have to keep my PC case turned upside down? Or am I missing something?

Actually, AF, airflow on a case is designed so that, if the fans are operating properly and airflow isn't impeded by dust, keeping it right-side-up should work just fine.

GPU fans are supposed to face down. It prevents them from blowing hot air into the CPU.

ah, I wasnt aware of that. In the vast majority of cases I've seen if the fans on a gpu pointed directly upwards, they'd point at the psu, thugh most gpus I have seen arent as long as an 8800.

Anyays, thanks! I thought I had amde a mistake or was picking crappy cases or something...
