Why not aim abit higher, as a simple game will get abit boring...

Have Spring Clients connect to host before loading...

Black Screen (updated background when mod == loaded)
With simply chat box,
And Player List with some sort of loading progress bar (doesnt have to be accuarate).

And maybe wait for all players to be ready before joining ?
With Host Option to Force Start a Battle ?

Maybe atad bit much of work, since some dev's working Command Engine, but still its a nice bit of polish

Are you honestly spending that much time loading?

With what processing power? The reason that you can't do anything while loading is because Spring is using every bit of processing power it can on pathing and stuff. Playing a minigame/chat/whatever will make the load take longer. If you can't alt-tab out of loading, then you can't do anything within loading either.

i want sekrit code running in backgroudn deleting your pron and warez

...anyway, the loading times aren't long enough for a minigame... well okay SOME maps do have long loading times (pathing) but I for my case generally avoid them.

Though some sort of pong should be possible under full load. Even commander keen had pong. 8)

I think that greenfields needs a minigame more than the loading screen... :-)

Isn't there some stupid thing where Namco owns the patent on minigames during loading and wont let anyone else use them (which is why we don't see them in most games). Not sure if that would apply to Spring though...

we dont see them because generally when your loadign the game the mini games would play very veyr laggy. Otherwise you could as much as quadruple the time needed to load the game by using a minigame during loading.

Also spring doesnt redraw during loading untill it changes to the next stage of loading and displays a new message.
