New Map - Trench Warfare

Post by Goolash_ »

http://spring.unknown-files.net/file/21 ... h_Warfare/

This map was really released by mistake, I meant it to be a test version but i got too busy with another map and forgot about it. anyway it's out.

This map is intended for K-Bots. I'm tired of the normal vehicle start (is it just me or are k-bots really inferior to vehicles in BA?) so i made a map where vehicles are useless. It's also hard to porc since you cant build defenses on the hills (not at the top anyway, an llt in half height is possible in some places). Amphibious vehicles can also climb the hills if you're feeling a bit unorthodox :-) .

12x12, Meant for 4-6 players. could be interesting 1v1 though...

The metal spots look ugly as usual, at the bottom there double geos (all you mappers know what i mean) but it's symmetrical and i thought it was a beta so i left it.

Goolash.

i agree, it really shouldn't be very porcy since kbots can move pretty much anywhere, but arm is probably the only choice.

it's interesting how similar L3DT's algorithms are when you put in a really uniform design map isn't it?

To porc effectively, you'd have to completely block off at least one long line of hills, too high for LOS defences to shoot over, so artillery can devastate your defences from afar. Also, if you porc at the first hill line, your enemy can expand and get all the resources he/she wanted, so you'd be defeated by sheer numerical superiority.

With lots of players it would be quite porcy. :|

@Lordmatt -Played it a few times already(4 players and 6 players battles), it's one of the most un-porcable maps out there.
You can't build any defense on the top of the hill, and in mid-height you can only build an llt in certain (far apart) places. and one more thing - to completely block an entire row you need loads of llts.
Give it a try before you say it's porcy...

@Strategia - Since Vehicles are useless here there's no real L1 artilery, so the only normal way of taking out an llt is by brute force.

@HunterW - I imported the concept to the l3dt design algorithm in really high res on purpose so it will barely change it, I'm glad it came out identical, it was what i was aiming for.

I was agreeing with the map author

You'll have a hard time telling when units are headed your way, because of radar LOS. I think it will probably be a stall during tech 1, since no lvl 1 kbots can really outrange any low level defense, but when everyone techs up the game ought to end pretty fast, and I'm sure the unit of choice will be the sharpshooter.

see, to me that says the only way of attacking defences which are 3x more cost effective than units, is with units, and the only artillery avaliable is fixed defence artillery, which says to me "I aekm D-fens"

1v0ry_k1ng - try playing the map before you judge it, it's not porcy...

In my experience most players take hold of 2 trenches each and then they start fighting for control, but no one can control the top of the hill with llts - so units such as thuds&hammers are really more useful then llts. true - there's usually a little llt war when the coms meet in the beginning but that's only till the units arrive. and with such a long front if you try to porc players are just gonna go around you defense. and one last thing - air drops ftw in this map, better have some mobile defense (units) ready...

Granted - This map usually doesn't end at l1 but it's not as porcy as you might think.
Next one who says it's porcy - please play the map first and then you will have my full attention :P .
