Post by kaiserbert »

Hi all,

sorry i posted this Message before, but i think nobody will see my old Message.

This Programm is used as Lobby for Unreal, ET, Quake and others.

Were using our own custom lobby protocol could be one reason.
If u look svn checkout trunk/Documentation/Lobby u see doc's on it

Personaly i say its easier to just finish coding UnityLobby for whats left. Then changing Lobby Protocol or added code to XQF to support Spring Lobby protocol imo.

Also no point in spiltting the player base up between 2 different protocols. Especially since tvo got Linux V Windows to work

edit:- Also u can use wine to run the Windows TASClient to play multiplayer games atm, see other thread.

We'd also need UnitSync support for Xqf

As far as I can see XQF has nothing to do with unitsync stuff as it's just some GUI for some protocol, not a VFS library (which unitsync essentially is)... I don't see why unitsync needs modifications for it. I could be wrong tho, only looked 2 secs at wikipedia about it.

Basicly u need to code support for unitsync in Xqf.
Code in Lobby Support aswell, unless u going to split up the userbase. Or get a windows app aswell.

Then need a options support added aswell.

Basicly its alot of work & personnaly i dont like the GUI, although the screenshots of app look like using an older GTK / ulgy gtk theme.

I looked just a bit to it, but, if you started another thread, I assume you know more, so I ask:

- does it support map selection or anything similar ? (with preview and select start points)
- does it have any concept of mod selection ?
- how easy can you integrate in it unitsync
- is it extensible enough ? Spring has some differences compared to a FPS. (for example ranking system which doesn't seem to be present from screenshots, mod, etc).

I think everyone would be glad if that was easy to do, but you should explain more ... From what I have seen this is not usable.

Also, from the XQF site: "We have no plans to port XQF to Windows". Spring really needs a lobby that works on windows and on linux.

Further research shows this is just a frontend for a program called 'qstat' which is a command line utility for grabbing stats from a game server.

It'd be less work to finish an existing linux lobby than port Xqf to windows and then program in spring support.
