Some FPS suggestions/requests

Post by Strategia »

Yes, I know that there's another FPS request thread right now, but that concerns some different ideas and I don't want to threadjack :)

OK, first off I love the fact that you can control your units in FPS mode, I've been waiting forever for something like that :) However, I would like to make a few requests for the future, when the devs are (reasonably) more satisfied with the RTS aspects and want to improve other parts of the program. :)

First off, could you make the font used for weapon info (Ready/Aiming/Reloading) smaller? Right now, if a unit has the maximum amount of weapons, part of the list falls off the screen.

Secondly, a reload indicator would be handy. :) Nothing too complex, just a red bar that becomes progressively green or something of the sort. Would be especially handy when controlling units with long reload times, like LRPCs or BLoDs :)

Thirdly, it would also be handy if the "Weapon 1:" indicators also displayed the type of weapon, such as "Flak cannon", "Rocko rocket launcher" or "Z0MFG T3H BL0D" :P

And fourth, it would be handy (in some cases) to be able to select which weapons to fire. Again, nothing too complex, maybe a small menu listing all available weapons and an "on/off" indicator. If you're using a Destroyer to bombard an enemy's windgens on the shore, it isn't of much use to fire depth charges :) Also, selective autofire would come in handy in some cases. In the aforementioned weapon selection menu, you could also maybe toggle an "Autofire/Manual" mode, so that things like defence turrets or rear cannons on aircraft fire automatically, instead of having to manually concentrate all fire on their intended targets.

Thank you for your time :)

All good ideas. Also, you can already switch weapons while in FPS mode. Just select the unit, hit Ctrl-1, then C, then 1, then you can press X to switch weapons anytime.

Also you can make them autofire by holding right button

I know both of those tricks, but Crappage's example required a unit with two (sets of) weapons which can be switched using the on/off command. I'm talking about multi-weaponed units that don't have that command, such as my Destroyer example with the depth charges.

And I know the freefire mode, but that toggles autofire for all weapons - what I mean is selecting specific weapons and setting them to autofire. For example, the Piledriver in Final Frontier has several main weapons which benefit from fire concentrated forward, however it also has two anti-fighter weapons. Now when I'm fighting an enemy fleet, I'd like to be able to put specifically those anti-fighter turrets on autofire, to ensure that they actually fire on any fighters that stray too close, instead of wasting their shots on hostile capital ships.
